Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 20-07-09

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  The prayer requests listed here are, as far as is sensibly practical, for activities that are happening on the particular week. A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

The Assembly also publishes a monthly Missionary Prayer Newsletter, for prayer requests on a longer time-scale, but this is not currently available on the web site.

BOTSWANA

Joy Griffiths (Gaborone) has been under the weather recently and is currently suffering with chicken pox. Pray that her health will pick up again soon, as she will be very busy over the next month.

REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA

Rodney Brown (Cape Town) is currently visiting Botswana, where he is taking gospel and ministry meetings until Thursday 23rd July. Praise God that a girl has professed faith in Christ.

ZAMBIA

Jean-Luc and Rita Hainaut (Eliya) have had to return urgently to Belgium, as Rita’s father is seriously ill. Doctors are not expecting him to recover, so this will be a very difficult time for them. Please remember Rita and her father in your prayers. For background information on family health problems see also: 11-08-08, 08-09-08, 29-09-08. 06-10-08, 16-02-09,  16-03-09.

INDIA

Ron Penny (Bangalore) advises that Lilo is currently ill with dengue fever and has severe pain in her joints. Please pray for her recovery, and also for Ron as he tries to manage a stream of visitors who are due to stay with them over the next few days.

Prayer is also requested regarding the new computer equipment for Kollegal School, which has been delayed as parts are not available. The children are missing 30 computer lessons a week. Pray that this situation will be resolved soon, and also that a Superintendent will be found for the Girls’ Home at Kollegal.

Give thanks that Ian Elliott’s father is making a good recovery so far, after his recent surgery.

ARGENTINA

Bobby and Isabel Jack (Buenos Aires) report that Argentina is currently in a state of emergency due to an outbreak of swine flu which has killed at least 60 people. All public gatherings have had to be stopped or reduced, so church activities have been kept to a minimum with just a breaking of bread and short ministry and prayer meetings. Isabel has health problems that make her vulnerable to the virus. Please pray that the virus will not continue to spread.

PERU

Luis and Anne-Laure Mostacero  (Trujillo) ask us to pray for the new module of the Bible school which is running throughout this month. Pray for the 14 students as they study God’s Word together.

FRANCE

Please remember in prayer Janice Duffin (Aix-en-Provence), who is spending time with her brother following the loss of his wife earlier this year. Pray that she will benefit from this break and also be a help to her brother and his teenage son.

David and Sheena Buchan (Bagnols sur Ceze) request prayer for several contacts in Bagnols-sur-Ceze, who will be followed up by elders in the church at Uzès. At least ten people have indicated their desire to continue coming to a fortnightly home Bible study. Another eight wish to be notified of special events, and there are eight young people who could come to youth events.

Alain and Christine Monclair (Quimper Region) ask for prayer  for Alain’s elderly parents. His mother is now bedridden and in a long-stay unit, but is alert when they pray with her. However, his father is not a believer and is very distressed by this situation. Please pray for his salvation.

NORWAY

Nat and Jennifer Rodgers  (Skien) ask for prayer for a couple from Bergen who are missionaries in Greenland. Eivind has recently been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. He and his wife Liv are in their early 50s and have three children.

GLO

Please pray for the GLO team working with the Petite Synthe assembly in Dunkerque, France, from 22nd to 31st July. They will be involved in a five-day children’s club and various outreach events, as well as distributing 20,000 tracts around the area and doing questionnaires in the street. Pray that the team members will be kept in good health, adapt well to the local culture and be effective in their witness.

LOCAL

"Coffee & Chat" each Wednesday morning at 10:30 am

The Open Air witness is outside Larkswood Road Community Centre at 5:30 pm on Sunday (weather permitting).

Jim McMaster (Gateshead) is (D.V.) with us for the Gospel this Sunday evening AT 6:30 pm
