Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 29 - 09 - 08

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

 REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA

Prayer would be appreciated as Rodney Brown and David McKillen (Cape Town) share in four weeks of gospel preaching in Cape Town during October. Four assemblies are combining to hold the meetings in four venues. The first week of meetings will be in Steenberg, commencing on 5th October. Pray that this will be a time of rich blessing.

ZAMBIA

Jean-Luc and Rita Hainaut (Eliya) are currently in Belgium, visiting their parents who have various health problems. They have been grateful for the prayers of many over the past weeks. Rita’s father’ health has been good but her mother, whose tumour was removed, is currently having chemotherapy. Please pray that they will both improve. Pray, too, for Jean-Luc’s father, who was admitted to hospital last week as he has difficulty eating, and for other ailments needing attention. Jean-Luc and Rita will be flying back to Zambia on 2nd October and hope to be back at Lupiya between 10th and 15th. Please pray that they will be able to do everything they need to before leaving for Zambia.

INDIA

Violence against Christians is continuing in Orissa, and police are finding it difficult to contain the situation. Pray for the many believers who have suffered the loss of their homes or their loved ones as a result, and for those who are living in fear. The situation is not improving, despite assurances from the government.

JAPAN

Pray for David Dexter (Miyazaki) as he teaches in the prison on 7th October, together with his colleague Al Juve. They will also be attending the prison Sports Day on 3rd October, which will be an opportunity to relate to the staff as well as the prisoners.

BOLIVIA

Kenny and Claudia Holt (Trinidad) ask for prayer for the political and social unrest in the country. There is no petrol due to the roadblocks and food is running short. On two occasions last week they went to buy chicken at the market and came away empty-handed. They say that many people are really suffering at the moment.

BRAZIL

Give thanks that Harry Reid has been allowed home from hospital. However, he is now on a waiting list for surgery and is on medication in the meantime. Please continue to pray for him and Jean.

CANADA

Peter Smith is in New Foundland at a place called “Corner Brook” for a week of Gospel / children / ministry meetings. He returns home next Monday, 5th October.

MEXICO

Please pray for Judith Harris who had a fall whilst in Mexico City, fracturing her shoulder. She is not in so much pain now and is able to move around. Please pray for a quick recovery. Eglon and Judith also mention that their Bahamas trip went well, and Eglon’s ministry was appreciated by the believers there.

PERU

Luis and Anne-Laure Mostacero would value prayer for a Congress on 4th October, to discuss the formation of a missionary service group. The committee will present the work they have done so far. Please pray as decisions are made about this important ministry.

FRANCE

Alan and Valerie Kyle ask us to pray for a special outreach exhibition and three conferences taking place in Dunkerque this week. The outreach runs until Saturday but the main event is on Friday, 3rd October.

LOCAL

Coffee and Chat every Wednesday morning at 10:30 am.

The monthly visit to Wheatacres is planned for this Sunday at 5:15 pm.

Stephen Richardson (Jarrow) is expected for the Gospel Service on Sunday evening at 6:30pm.
