CIVIC OPENING

The official civic opening of the new Redcar Gospel Hall on Edenhall Grove, Redcar, was at 12:00 noon, Friday, 19th January, 2007. The Worshipful the Mayor Councillor Mary Ovens, Mrs Vera Baird (MP), Bryan Kitchen (Redcar & Cleveland Planning Dept.), Mrs Ann Charlton, Mrs Maureen Ireland (Manageress of the Ann Charlton Lodge), Mr Richard Hackett (the Architect), Mr Peter Hartridge (the Project Manager), and Mr Paul Saddington (the Builder), as well as many friends from other Assemblies in the north-east attended; over 60 people were present. Mr Rutherford Rabey (Newcastle) gave an address on the purpose of the Gospel Hall with readings from Acts 2:22-24 and v.41-42. The following summarises his message:

"It is important to emphasise at the beginning, that the Christians who meet here in the new Gospel Hall, believe in the Authority of Scripture. This means that they believe that the Bible is the inspired, revealed, Word of God. Because of this they are not left to their own ideas as to what would be  believed and taught, as their own ideas could vary dramatically, but their foundation is solely on the revealed Word of God.

The Bible teaches that there is only one way the Salvation of God can be received and that is through faith in the work of Christ on the Cross, by his Death, Burial and Resurrection. On the basis of this redemptive work alone, can a person be forgiven by a Holy God.

The Christians who meet here believe that they "that gladly received his word" v 41, would on the Authority of Scripture then be baptized by full immersion in water, thus signifying death, burial and Resurrection to new life, and be received into Assembly fellowship. They would then meet with the Christian fellowship on the first day of every week (Sunday), to remember the Lord in the "breaking of bread and in prayers."

In order for the Gospel to be spread, those who live in the area will be invited regularly to attend church meetings where God's way of Salvation will be proclaimed, and through this means there would be added to the local church those who came to believe on the message that Christ died, was buried, and on the third day rose again from the dead according to the Scriptures.

Further meetings would be held in the course of the week, for example, for Bible teaching, for Prayer, and meetings for children and young people, to make the message of the Bible known to them.

It has been a privilege for me to be able to come to this opening of the new Gospel Hall and my prayer would be that the Lord would bless the Assembly here in their work for Him."

Following the service one couple wrote:

We both felt that the new hall looked fantastic and a lot of thought and attention to detail must have taken place to achieve it.  The service went well and I felt it gave a good overview of the Gospel Hall and it was good to see so many people present.  Finally, the refreshments were first class and enjoyed by all.

We trust that you will see the benefit of your hard work over many years and that souls will be saved and added to the assembly at Redcar.

Redcar Gospel Hall will have a special place in our hearts, having heard of the plans for so long and then being there on opening day, it is something to remember!
