Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 10-08-09

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  The prayer requests listed here are, as far as is sensibly practical, for activities that are happening on the particular week. A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

The Assembly also publishes a monthly Missionary Prayer Newsletter, for prayer requests on a longer time-scale. Click here for this month's prayer newsletter.

ETHIOPIA

National worker Mulugeta Ashagre mentions that a special week-long outreach for children is being held in Addis Abababa and surrounding areas during August. They are expecting 2,000 children to attend. Please pray for this and for other ministries in which Mulugeta is involved.

MALAWI

Stephen and Gail Harper (Thondwe) ask for prayer for the salvation of a lady called Margaret, who has cancer and resorted to the witch doctor for treatment. It seems she was encouraged to do this by her father, who is a professing believer. Pray that both of them will be truly saved and delivered from traditional practices.

ZAMBIA

Barry and Rachel Haigh will be making a return visit to Zambia from 12th August till 10th October. Barry has been asked to speak at a bush conference shortly after arriving. After that they will be spending time with various local churches and village folk to give encouragement, as well as visiting two discipleship centres. Pray for them as they travel long distances over bad roads.

Julie-Rachel Elwood asks for prayer for a man called Derrick, who has been in Chitokoloki Hospital ever since she arrived there (see Prayer Requests, 15-06-09). He is HIV-positive and also has a form of cancer. Please pray for his salvation. He recently asked for a hymn book and attended the gospel meeting.

INDIA

Please pray for Joan Holt, who is quite unwell and in hospital. Among other things, she is having problems with eating. Friends have been able to visit and pray with her.

PAKISTAN

Liz Greig has asked us to pray for several of the staff members at Kunhar Christian Hospital who have asked to be baptised. They are attending baptismal classes and a service has been arranged for 16th August. Please pray for them as they witness to their families and friends. The following weekend, from 21st to 23rd August, there will be a ladies’ conference and prayer would be valued for this, too.

Echoes report that a Christian community in a town between Multan and Faisalabad has been attacked. A number of homes were set alight and seven people died. Please pray that this anti-Christian violence will be contained and that the Lord will comfort the families who have been affected.

 BRAZIL

Jeff and Denise Watson request prayer for the work in Foz do Iguacu. There has been an increase in swine flu in Argentina, and as Foz is a border town many people are fearful. All schools have been closed at least until 17th August.

FRANCE

Give thanks that Peter Wheeler is now home from hospital and recovering after having a pacemaker fitted. Pray for him as he visits Normandy next Wednesday and Thursday to give two lectures at a Bible Exhibition, on “How the Bible came to us” and “Archaeology and the Bible”.

GLO

Please pray for the GLO team working in Alencon, France, from 15th to 29th August. Pray that the team members will be kept in good health, adapt well to the local culture and be effective in their witness.
