Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 26-10-09

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  The prayer requests listed here are, as far as is sensibly practical, for activities that are happening on the particular week. A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

The Assembly also publishes a monthly Missionary Prayer Newsletter, for prayer requests on a longer time-scale. Click here for this month's prayer newsletter.

REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA

Paul Grieve (Murchison) (left) will be performing a wedding ceremony this Saturday for a young man in the assembly. Many Hindu people will be present, so pray that Paul will be able to use this opportunity to present the gospel. Some of the young man’s family members have attended the church previously on special occasions and prayer is asked that they will come to faith in Christ.

JAPAN

On 31st October, Ronnie and Anne Cairns (Akashi) (right) will be visiting Kyoto, which is a strong Buddhist area where they used to work. Ronnie has been asked to speak at the opening of the assembly’s new hall, which has splendid facilities and is a testimony to the hard work and faithfulness of the believers.

Ken and Christine Cowell will be holding another meeting with Japanese people in Milton Keynes on Sunday 1st November. The Lord seems to be speaking to a number of these people and special prayer is requested for the salvation of two ladies, Mrs Mori and Mrs Inoue. Pray also for a man named Steve who is married to a Japanese woman. He previously claimed to be Christian but now says he is agnostic.

THAILAND

Peter Ferry (Phuket) asks for prayer as he visits Malaysia at the end of this month for ten days. On 31st he will conduct a seminar on “The Brethren Contribution to Worldwide Mission”. This will take place in Kuala Lumpur and assemblies around the city have been invited. He will also take meetings morning and evening on Sunday 1st November. The following day, 2nd November, he is to have a cataract operation, so please pray for him and also for Peggy, who will remain in Thailand.

ARGENTINA

Bobby and Isabel Jack ask for prayer regarding the security situation in Buenos Aires. Recently, their son Roberto was followed on home from school by someone who intended to rob him. Give thanks that he was able to run away and came to no harm.

This coming weekend Bobby will be giving his second message on “Revelation and the Heavenly Jerusalem”, and presenting the Gospel on the Sunday evening.

BAHAMAS

Mark and Carol Lacey have returned to the Bahamas. Mark is still weak from his back operation and needs to rest often, so prayer would be valued for his return to work.

MEXICO

On 31st October Eglon Harris will be responsible for the teaching at a young people’s conference. He will be speaking on the book of Malachi and the letter to Laodicea, under the heading “The last voice before the silence”. Last year, 700 young people attended this conference. Pray for a good attendance this year and good interest in the Word.

 FRANCE

Alan and Valerie Kyle (Dunkerque) are having Bible studies with 3 people who have requested baptism. This is now planned for 1st November and a number of their non-Christian friends have said they want to be present. Pray that God will speak to them through this witness.

ITALY

The Fuorigrotta church (Naples) plans to distribute 12,000 tracts to the many thousands who go to cemeteries during All Saints’ Day (over 1st and 2nd November) to pray for their dead loved ones. Pray that the light of the Lord may come into their lives. In addition, an open-air outreach is being held in one of the main streets in Fuorigrotta on 29th October and prayer would be appreciated for this event.

LOCAL

"Coffee and Chat" on each Wednesday morning at 10:30 am.

Paul Malcolm (N. Shields) is planned to be with us on Sunday evening for the preaching of the Gospel.
