Prayer Requests for Week Commencing    25 - 04 - 2011

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  The prayer requests listed here are, as far as is sensibly practical, for activities that are happening on the particular week. A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

The Assembly also, most months, publishes a monthly Missionary Prayer Newsletter, for prayer requests on a longer time-scale. Click here for the last monthly prayer newsletter.

REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA

Rodney and Joy Brown (Cape Town) - Prayer would be appreciated as tracts and invitations are distributed within the Wellinton area, advertising two weeks of gospel meetings from 1-15th May. Rodney will be preaching and would value prayer for this.

ZAMBIA

Echoes report a serious road traffic accident on 25th April in Zambia involving David Lukama (Ndola). Six people were travelling in a vehicle en route to run a Youth Camp at Mpulungu. These were David Lukama, Maria Mwape, Alex from Italy (GLO Zambia Workers), Gift (serving with Pro-Christo in Mpulungu) and two young ladies visiting from the Faroe Islands. The vehicle hit a bad pothole and one of the Faroese girls was killed instantly. David and Maria have very severe head injuries and are in Kabwe General Hospital, Gift has a spinal injury and has lost sensation to the lower part of his body. The others have only minor injuries. Felix Muchimba is in touch with the Danish Embassy as they seek to arrange to fly the deceased home to Faroes.

Please be in prayer for all involved in this accident, and for David and Maria and their family members, especially Nanna (David's wife), who is due to give birth anytime.

JAPAN

David and Esther Dexter ask prayer for Paul, a fellow Christian from Ghana, who has been working and doing research in Miyagi, an area hit hardest by the earthquake. He suffered much damage from the earthquake and has lost his job. After the quake he was evacuated to the Miyazaki area close to David and Esther.

David reports that a month after the earthquake factories and work places are beginning to be re-established and repaired. It will take a long time to clear rubbish and re-settle the many hundreds of people who have been evacuated from the devastated area.

They have heard of people and families being saved as a result of the earthquake and Christian witness. There is still a lot of work to be done, and there are many opportunities, so continued prayer would be valued.

CANADA

Peter Smith is currently in Eniskillen (N.Ireland) for the International PBS Conference until May 3rd. He would appreciate prayer for the Conference.

Elaine, in Canada, has set up the PBS stall at a Youth Conference in Melfort, Saskatchewan, at which Jim McMaster (N. Shields) was one of the speakers.

EASTERN EUROPE

Martin and Margaret Baker would value prayer for their visit to Slovakia 21st April – May 5th where they will visit several assemblies. Please pray for safety of travel and that their visit will be a blessing and encouragement to those they meet.

FRANCE

Allan and Anne Kitt give thanks for those who prayed for the baptisms held on April 17th. The hall was full with over 100 attending, including the family members who had strongly opposed the faith of one of the young women. Please continue to pray for the continuing witness of the three people baptised.

SPAIN

Ken and Alison Barrett (Madrid) - Alison would value prayer for this Saturday when she will be involved in a conference for women organised by the Alcala Church. Prayer is asked for the ministry of Margarita Burt and the different congregations who will be represented.

Ken would also value prayer as he attends a leaders’ retreat in connection with the Madrid city centre open air ministry.

OTHERS

David and Marion Mead would value prayer for safe travelling on 3rd May when they will be driving to Italy, stopping en-route in Switzerland for ministry in the Wallisellen assembly. Prayer is asked for this small fellowship where David will be leading some Bible studies.
