Prayer Requests for Week Commencing: 23-04-12

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  The prayer requests listed here are, as far as is sensibly practical, for activities that are happening on the particular week. A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

The Assembly also, most months, publishes a monthly Missionary Prayer Newsletter, for prayer requests on a longer time-scale. Click here for the last monthly prayer newsletter.

REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA

Paul and Dorothy Grieve (Murchison) – Currently assembly meetings are being led by Ian Jackson (Eastbourne?, and they have been encouraged by the number of those gathering, and being challenged by the messages. Prayer is asked for Martin, who had previously turned down invitations to attend the meetings but has attended each meeting recently. Prayer is also asked for the men’s breakfast, where usually about 60 men attend, 50% of these being unsaved.

THAILAND

Peter and Peggy Ferry (Phuket) Peggy has recently been admitted to hospital with back pain, preventing her from walking. An MRI showed that a bone is pressing on the nerves in the spinal canal and she needs surgery to correct this. Prayer will be valued for them both at this time (the surgery was due to have taken place 21st April).

BRAZIL

Walter and Elizabeth Alexander (Vitoria) -Walter was rushed to hospital on 20th April with severe chest pains and was kept in for several hours.  He has been allowed home but has had to cancel all engagements and have complete rest.

ETHNIC MINORITIES

Ruth Cushing (Wirral) – The first funding application for the Toxteth Women’s Centre was unsuccessful.  Pray that the second decision to be taken on 30th April, will be successful.

FRANCE

David and Brigitte Sutherland  (Arras) - On 28th and 29th April, in Lyon, there is an outreach event involving an Evangelist, Tony Anthony. David and Brigitte have a stand and look forward to meeting present and former students, as well as informing many others about the ministry of the Emmaus courses. In addition they ask prayer for Aliona (18yrs) and Yori (16yrs) who are preparing for baptism in June.

Alison Packer (Laval) has returned home from hospital, and gives thanks for all those who have been praying for her and the family, especially during this particularly difficult time.  She is being looked after by domiciliary nurses, and is still attached to her intravenous feed for 14 hours per day, although able to eat small quantities of food. She will be having further tests this week and would value prayer that another operation would be avoided.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

Andrew and Lorna Burt (Enniscorthy) - The next women’s outreach is a craft night on Friday 27th April and prayer is asked that many women will take a step closer to putting their faith in Christ.

SPAIN

Ken and Alison Barrett (Madrid) – Ken would value prayer for a meeting Thursday 26th held by the Madrid Bible Teaching Centre’s publications committee, with the publisher of a major commentary, which faces being cut because of lack of finance.  Prayer is asked for wisdom as to what can be salvaged from this set back.
