REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA
Paul and Dorothy Grieve
(Murchison) request prayer for the twice-monthly meeting held in the senior citizens’ complex. Usually 25-30 people attend and over the 16 years of its existence some have come to faith. Pray especially for Jack, a Freemason, and his wife Lyn, who attend quite regularly. Pray for their salvation.

ZAMBIA

Barry and Rachel Haigh are back in Zambia until 10th October. They will be spending time with various local churches and village folk to give encouragement, as well as visiting two discipleship centres. Pray for them as they travel long distances over bad roads.

CAMBODIA

Please pray for Glenn and Siobhan Miles, who have recently returned to Cambodia and are being added to the Prayer Guide in September. Glenn has just had his laptop, mobile phones and digital camera stolen. While these items can be replaced, he has lost a lot of important data, which is frustrating. It was backed up on an external drive, but for some reason this isn’t working. Praise God that no one was hurt.

INDIA

Ian Elliott (Delhi) has now returned to India after visiting his parents in the UK (see Prayer Requests for 29th June,2009). Give thanks that his father’s operation went well and that he is making a good recovery. Pray that Ian and Anita will know God’s guidance regarding their future work in India.

V. Paul Raju, of Bethesda (Leprosy) Hospital, writes of severe drought in Andhra Pradesh and asks prayer for good rains. The hospital has seven acres of wetland for rice-growing, the rice being used to feed patients and children. Unless the rains come in time, the yield will be much less and there will be a shortage of grain. Please pray.

JAPAN

Please pray for Charles Lawrence (Fukushima), who is currently undergoing hospital treatment for prostate cancer. Give thanks that it has not spread to other areas and that he feels well enough to continue his ministry as normal.

PAKISTAN

Please continue to pray for those who suffered in the recent anti-Christian violence in Gojra, near Faisalabad. Many people lost their homes and three churches were destroyed. Christian workers have visited the area and are assessing the needs to see how they can help. They hope to distribute Bibles as well as material aid. Please pray for them as they seek to help and comfort the victims of these attacks. One lady lost seven family members.

BAHAMAS

Please pray urgently that a Night Manager will be found for The Haven ministry. The 24-bed facility is in place, but the vacancy needs to be filled in order for it to be utilised.

BOLIVIA

Chicho and Rachel Tube Oniava  are planned to leave for Bolivia on Tuesday 1st September following a visit to the UK. They ask for prayer as they travel and then settle back into their life and ministry in Trinidad-Beni.

BRAZIL

Walter and Elizabeth Alexander (Vitoria) are currently in Portugal, where they will stay until the end of September. They then move on to Ituiutaba, in Brazil, for a conference until 9th October before going to the Sao Paulo conference on 10th. They will arrive home on 12th October. Please pray for help and strength to carry out these journeys and commitments.

CANADA

Peter Smith would appreciate prayer for his mother who is planned to have a knee operation on Wednesday 9th September; she is pleased that her wait for the operation is nearly over, as she is in so much pain. Because of other commitments, Peter will not be able to visit but hopes to be able to come over in October.

ETHNIC MINORITIES
Ruth Cushing
requests prayer for one of her contacts who she has helped with an asylum application. ‘M’ is a victim of awful circumstances and is in a very undesirable situation now. She is very distressed, so please pray for the application to be granted quickly and that she may know the peace of God through knowing the Lord Jesus as Saviour.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND
Andrew and Gillian Shanks (Newcastle West)
have been taking their ‘Ultimate Decision’ tent to various agricultural shows over the summer and they plan to visit three more shows before the end of September. Pray that God will speak to people through the conversations which take place in the tent and the literature that is taken away. One or two have already requested Bibles and booklets as a result of this outreach.

SPAIN

Ken and Alison Barrett (Madrid) request prayer for a George Borrow conference which will be held there in September.

They hope to be able to film the  conference for a television programme later this year, but this has yet to be confirmed. Pray that they will receive the resources required.

LOCAL

NE Christian Camp

The Camp was held from Monday, 3rd August to Saturday, 8th August. 36 young people in the age range 9-17 yrs attended and two 14 yrs old lads made professions of salvation; praise the Lord for this, and pray for those who have professed faith in the Lord that they might grow in grace, and be encouraged.
