Prayer Requests for Week Commencing: 14 - 11 - 2011

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  The prayer requests listed here are, as far as is sensibly practical, for activities that are happening on the particular week. A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

The Assembly also, most months, publishes a monthly Missionary Prayer Newsletter, for prayer requests on a longer time-scale. Click here for the last monthly prayer newsletter.

Brian Howden returns to Angola on 15th November for 3 weeks. Samuel Simonyi-Gindele from Canada is hoping to accompany him on this visit if he gets a visa. Samuel and his wife are exercised about serving the Lord in Angola and therefore would appreciate prayer that this trip would be used of the Lord to guide them for the future.

ZAMBIA

Dr Viv and Christine Davies (UK) are due to leave the UK on 18th November to serve at Kalene Hospital for a month. Pray that they will have a safe flight and will quickly settle into the work there.

THAILAND

Peter and Peggy Ferry (Phuket) would appreciate prayer as he travels to Burma on 18th November to spend a few days there.

BRAZIL

Simon and Judy Quelch (Juiz de Fora) would appreciate prayer for three people who have told them that they have put their trust in the Lord: Dani, a student from a Spiritist family; Dani’s boyfriend Tiago; and Ivonete, in her early 40s and from a Catholic background. All three have been studying with Simon and Judy for nearly three months. Pray especially in the coming weeks for others to care for them whilst Simon and Judy are on furlough in the UK.

CANADA

Peter Smith is currently in the UK until the 23rd November, his visit prompted by his mother going into hospital for a knee replacement. The operation was successful and Peter writes that “Mum is doing fine”. He would value our prayers for a speedy and full recovery for her and that the Lord will bless their time together.

ITALY

David and Marion Mead report that recent floods in Italy have devastated the Ligurian coastal region from Genoa, causing rivers to break their banks, flooding towns and villages. Some believers are amongst the many to have suffered loss. Prayer is asked for all those affected, and for the witness of the camp and conference centre at Brugnato, which is being used as temporary accommodation for those whose home have been damaged or destroyed.

NORWAY

Pray for Margaret Hewitt, who has several health issues, that she will know the Lord’s guidance and wisdom in decisions she has to make. Give thanks for numerical growth in the Sunday school, bringing the number of children to 25. One of the boys is very sick pray especially for him.

ROMANIA

Tim and Jenny Gooding – On 22nd October a new work began with the help of some of the young people from Cluj assembly. Gypsy children are invited to a Saturday school, at which they are taught Bible stories, songs and memory verses, as well as reading and writing. Some of them, even at 12 years of age, have never been to school. Pray for this new work.

SPAIN

Ken and Alison Barrett Madrid) would value prayer for a Christianity Explored’ course beginning at Alcala assembly on 20th November.

OTHER SERVICE

John Aitken, Andy Street (Echoes of Service) and Alan Park (Interlink) are due to visit Haiti from 16th-23rd November to see several projects which received monies from the Echoes Disaster Fund following the earthquake in January 2010. Please pray that they will enjoy safety of travel, good health and safety within the country, that their visit will be a blessing and encouragement to those they meet, and that they will know wisdom and discernment as they assess projects which have received financial assistance.
