DEM. REP. OF
CONGO
Mary
Ratter (Whitley Bay) is returning to
Congo on
11th April after nine months of
quality time with family and friends in the
UK. She will be accompanied by
Jim Smith
(Houghton le Spring), who is giving
ten weeks of practical assistance in
Katoka’s
building programme.
Pray
that Mary
and Jim
will be blessed with safe travel.
Pray,
too, for the soon and safe arrival of 12
tons of goods, cement and roofing iron, etc,
ordered in
Lubumbashi and currently en route to
Katoka;
the roads are particularly bad because of
the wet season.
Echoes report that
Ray Williams
(Retired Congo & Zambia)
is seriously ill. Please
pray
for him at this time, and also remember
Ruth
and the family, as well as believers at
Malvern who are so fond of
Ray.
MALAWI
David and
Grace Croudace (Zambia) are having an
encouraging time in Malawi, where they are
in touch with folk asking for
prayer.
They have had lunch with one couple,
F and Z,
and had an opportunity to read the
Scriptures and explain the way of salvation.
F and
Z are
anxious to keep contact so pray for further
opportunities to meet.
Pray
for F’s
mother, who is also asking for prayer;
David
and Grace
have arranged to visit her on
18th April.
INDIA
News about the
arrest of
evangelists and
other believers in West Bengal is
positive. They received bail on 31st March,
procedures were completed on 1st April, and
after 16 days in jail they were all able to
return to their homes. Give thanks to the
Lord for His intervention.
THAILAND
Geoff
and Pat Atkinson (Mae Sariang) report
that the
Chrestos Youth Conference is being
held from
12th-16th April. Around 250 young
people are expected to attend for a time of
teaching, fellowship and fun.
Pray
for those with leadership responsibilities,
as well as for the young people.
MEXICO
A young people’s
camp is currently running at Valsequillo,
Pue., until
14th April, with 98 participants.
Eglon Harris
is speaking on the theme: ‘What
does the cross of Christ signify to you?’
Workers from ‘El
Sembrador’ will be responsible for
other activities.
Pray
for Eglon,
and that the young people will be challenged
to seek and serve the Lord.
REPUBLIC OF
IRELAND
Noel and
Liza McMeekin (Cootehill) continue
the
Postal Bible School prize-giving at
Wicklow
on 15th
April.
Pray
for a good attendance and that the gospel
will be heard and understood.
SYRIA
Syrian Christians
are in a desperate need of prayer, as
violence in the country continues to
escalate. The situation is particularly bad
in the city of
Homs,
where sources report that more than 80 per
cent of Christians have fled to surrounding
villages or
Damascus. Under the regime of
President Assad, the 3-5% nominal
Christians
in Syria had a certain freedom and tolerance
as a minority religion. But based on the
current situation and after more than a year
of protests and violence, it is uncertain
what the outcome is going to be.
Following the
recent examples of Egypt, Libya and Iraq,
many Christians fear that if President
Assad's government is overthrown, the
church's situation could change
dramatically.
Please pray:
· That
God will give wisdom in the choices
Christians have to make and
protection as they travel.
· That
the distribution of Bibles and
planned discipleship training
workshops would be able to continue,
and the church would be strengthened
in this critical period.
