Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 07-12-09

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  The prayer requests listed here are, as far as is sensibly practical, for activities that are happening on the particular week. A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

The Assembly also publishes a monthly Missionary Prayer Newsletter, for prayer requests on a longer time-scale. Click here for this month's prayer newsletter.

REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA

Pray for Rodney Brown (Cape Town), who is preaching the gospel at Fisantekraal Community Hall until Thursday this week, together with a co-worker; open-air meetings are taking place each afternoon. On Friday, Rodney will speak at the anniversary of the Fisantekraal weekly children’s meeting. Parents have been invited for this occasion.

TANZANIA

Allan and Jacqui McKinnon (Moshi) ask for prayer this week as they take 13 of the children from the Children’s Centre for a short holiday in Dar es Salaam from Monday to Friday. They will be staying at the kindergarten where Steve and Gill Davies are. Pray for safety in travel, and that the children will not only have a good time but also become children who count for Christ as they hear the Word of God during the daily devotions.

JAPAN

Ken and Christine Cowell ask us to pray for the Christmas outreaches in Kushiro. The one for women takes place on 9th December and is normally attended by 25-30 non-Christians. The young people’s outreach is planned for 13th December.

ARGENTINA

Bobby and Isabel Jack (Buenos Aires) have a special Christmas meeting planned for 19th December in the church. As part of the preparations, the young people in the church are doing video interviews with people at a local market, asking them for their opinions about Christmas. Pray that this outreach will be an opportunity to clearly present the gospel message. Prayer is also requested for the family’s safety, as there have been several hold-up attempts recently, and for Isabel, who is not in the best of health but continues her work among the ladies.

Please pray for William and Liz Irwin (Nantes) and their family. At 2 am on Sunday 29th November a drunk driver smashed his car through their garden wall and into the house. Pieces of concrete came through the children’s bedroom windows and narrowly missed the two boys in bed. There is a great deal of damage to the house, with the front door and windows smashed. The family are in a state of shock and have been finding it hard to sleep since. Give thanks that no one was injured and pray that they will be able to get the house repaired soon.

FRANCE

Allan and Anne Kitt (Villefranche-sur-Saone) ask for prayer for the Christian bookshop ministry in Le Havre. The shop has had to move to smaller premises, but it is in a good location on a busy street and next to a bus stop. The new shop opened on 1st December.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

Colin and Rosemary Sheldon (Dublin) are currently distributing gospel calendars, and at the same time are giving out invitations to their carol service on 13th December. Pray that some people will accept the invitation and come along.

Michael and Shirley McKillen (Gorey) are distributing 4,000 gospel calendars around the town and in neighbouring villages. Pray that these will be well received and speak to people’s hearts. Pray, too, for a special ladies’ outreach evening on 16th December, when they will have a craft session followed by a gospel message.

ITALY

Paul and Nesta Volle are offering gospel calendars in the markets in Montespertoli and Tavarnelle on various dates this month. Recently, one of the employees of the city hall in Tavarnelle took away four calendars for use in some of the offices. Please pray that many others will accept the calendars and read them.

LOCAL

"Coffee and Chat" on each Wednesday morning at 10:30 am.

The monthly visit to Wheatacres is planned for next Sunday at 5:15 pm. It will take the form of a Carol Service.

Stuart Gordon (Harrogate) is responsible for the Gospel Service next Sunday evening at 6:30 pm.
