MISSIONARY PRAYER NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2009

ANGOLA

See report from Brian Howden.

MALAWI

Stephen and Gail Harper (Thondwe) ask for prayer for a Malawian man called Stewart, who is a qualified doctor and a regular visitor to the shop at Zomba. He recently confided to Stephen that he had been deeply affected by his father’s death and he seemed to be searching for answers to life’s big questions. Pray that the Lord will continue to work in this man’s heart, and that Stephen will be given the right words when he speaks to him.

RWANDA

Peter and Jenny Andrews (Kigali) request prayer for Elie, who is the director of their orphans project and an elder in the Kigali church. Ten years ago he spent time in prison after being falsely accused of crimes during the genocide. During this two-year period he carried out a wonderful pastoral work among the prisoners. He was eventually found not guilty and released, but over the past couple of months allegations have resurfaced. Pray that he will not be sent to prison again.

TANZANIA

Allan and Jacqui McKinnon (Moshi) ask for prayer for a little girl called Agatha at Moshi Christian Children’s Centre, who was badly abused by her father. Pray for her physical and mental healing as the staff show her the love of Jesus.

ZAMBIA

Hilary Millard (Chingola) mentions that there is an urgent need for a Biology teacher at Amano School, to start in January, and also a Head teacher for the Secondary School. At the moment, Hilary is Acting Secondary Head as well as Primary Head. Pray that the Lord will give her continued strength to cover this extra role until a replacement is found.

Doreen Barker was recently able to attend the assembly in Chingola for the first time since early June. Despite breaking her left femur and then being seriously ill with a stroke, she has recovered well and is now able to walk with a frame, even though doctors said she would not walk again. Give thanks for her recovery.

Jean-Luc Hainaut (Eliya) has recently been teaching at Kashikishi Bible School, on “The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit”. He will be going back in a week or so to give more teaching, on “The Doctrine of Salvation and Eternal Security”. Please pray that the Lord will speak to the students through him. Rita has various classes for women, one of which is a Bible study. Pray for her as she teaches them life skills and spiritual truths.

Kalene Hospital needs a relief doctor whilst Dr John Woodfield and family are on furlough. Cover is needed from November 2009 to January 2010. In addition, a midwife is required for a six-month period, to enable the current midwife and family to have a furlough. Please pray for these needs.

INDIA

Echoes inform that floods in the Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh have caused a lot of damage. Many people have died and thousands have been left homeless. A number of Christians in Kurnool Town have lost loved ones and one family narrowly escaped being overwhelmed by the flood water. Echoes funds have been sent to Christian contacts in the area.

BRAZIL

Jeff and Denise Watson (Foz) that severe storms have been battering the area where they live. The two main rivers, Igua’u and Parani, are over 15 metres higher than normal and many people are suffering as a result. Last week, tiles were blown off the church roof and two of the children’s classrooms were flooded. After repairs had been carried out, another storm struck at the weekend, causing further damage. Pray for Jeff as he works to get the building back in order.

CANADA

Peter Smith would appreciate prayer for his home assembly in Portage, that commences a three/four week Gospel series on Sunday November 1st. Our brethren Gaius Goff and Ross Vanstone are responsible.

On November 9th God willing, he is heading over to England to visit his Mum for two weeks. She has done really well since her operation and they’re thankful to the Lord for His care of her.

FRANCE

Graham & Alison Black (Bouc Bel Air) have a number of printing projects on the go and would value supporting prayer for them. The 2010 edition of our Bible text calendar is in the hands of the printers. We are also working on a new presentation leaflet which explains all the different aspects of "The Voice of the Gospel" Radio, Bible Correspondence Course and Printing ministry. Also, another course in the Old Testament on the book of Jonah is being page set at the moment and should be ready for printing soon.  Please pray for these different printing projects and that they will soon be available and in turn a blessing to many as they are sent out.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND
Your prayers are valued for a special week of outreach in Drum assembly during the first week of November. The theme will be “God’s Power to Change Lives” and will include six evenings of testimonies. Pray for Noel and Liza McMeekin as they prepare and distribute invitations to these events.

John and Linda Stanfield (Limerick) ask for prayer for a man named Christy, who made contact following the distribution of a gospel magazine. He has now requested a second book to read. An Alpha course is currently in progress at the church, and the Lord seems to be speaking to some who attend. Pray for Marie, Irene and Vaughn. Pray also for a handful of folk who are coming to get help with learning English, that they will show interest in coming to other events.

ITALY

David and Marion Mead (Pietragavina) ask for prayer for the Paullo assembly in Milan. They have bought a property which they are converting into a new hall and plan to open this in December. Give thanks that one of the elders recently had the joy of seeing two of his relatives come to faith - his sister-in-law and a nephew. Pray that this growth will continue as they move into larger premises.

PORTUGAL

Colin and Grace Lovell (Sintra) have recently returned to Portugal after a time in the UK. Praise God that Alzira, a Christian lady who had a brain haemorrhage just before they left for furlough, has recovered completely and is back at home. Pray for her husband, who is not saved, and also that her two children, who once made professions of faith, will come back to the Lord. Two ladies who live near the church at Albarraque have been saved and others are showing interest. Give thanks for these encouragements and pray for continued blessing.

SPAIN

Jesus and Helen Ortiz (Soria) would value special prayer for the assembly at this time. The 24 year-old daughter of a couple in fellowship was recently killed in a car accident. She was saved and baptised, but had gradually drifted away and stopped attending the meetings, although she did not deny her faith. At the funeral, hundreds of people listened to a clear gospel message. Pray that the Lord will bring good out of this situation.
