Prayer Requests for Week Commencing     07-03-2011

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  The prayer requests listed here are, as far as is sensibly practical, for activities that are happening on the particular week. A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

The Assembly also, most months, publishes a monthly Missionary Prayer Newsletter, for prayer requests on a longer time-scale. Click here for the last monthly prayer newsletter.

MALAWI

Jonathan and Ruth Newell (Blantyre) give thanks that not only has Jonathan’s Permit been approved and the Challenge Newspaper arrived, but they have also been offered the use of new premises for Bethel Chapel. These premises are in a school, which is much closer to the area where most of the people live.

Prayer is asked for a young man, a member of Bethel, who stopped coming during February, leaving his studies.  The elders have met with him twice but there remain unresolved issues in his life which require much prayer, grace and wisdom. Prayer is asked for the assembly as this development has shocked many and unsettled the fellowship.

Jonathan and Ruth also ask prayer for Gerard and Moses, young men at Bethel who have recently professed faith and have requested baptism. It is hoped that they will be able to have a baptismal service once the rains are over!

ZAMBIA

Mark Davies (GLO Motherwell) leaves for Zambia on the 9th March for various meetings in connection with GLO  before joining a Translation Team between the 26th-31st March in Kasama who are translating the Old Testament into Bemba.  The New Testament was done several years ago and is already in print. We are asked to pray for a real concerted effort to work at maximum efficiency for completion this year, as well as prayer  for care and accuracy in translation.

The Bemba language is spoken by around 3-4 million people.

CANADA

Peter Smith reports that they have had nearly 270 new PBS students apply as a result of the 'Gospel Messenger' distribution across northern Canada. Thankfully to date the Lord has exercised 11 saints to help with the extra marking. Please continue to pray that others will be raised up to help with the work.

BOLIVIA

Kenny & Claudia Holt (Tinidad Beni) ask prayer for the planning and preparation needed for the recommencement of Sunday School classes this weekend (13 March), the beginning of the Arts & Crafts classes on Saturday (12th March), and Claudia’s work at the school for the deaf.

FRANCE

Graham and Alison Black (Bouc Bel Air) - Three French evangelists/radio speakers will record messages this month to go out over the air. Prayer is asked that the recording will go smoothly and that it will be a blessing to many in the French-speaking world.

Graham & Alison are still following through with the young French speaking couple who are showing an interest in becoming involved on the technical side of the work.  Please pray that they will have real wisdom and guidance in this matter.

IRELAND

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

Noel and Liza McMeekin (Drum) continue the Postal Bible Prize givings this week at Navan (10th), and Mountmellick and Tullow (11th). Please pray that they will enjoy safety of travel as they visit various venues over the coming weeks.

Colin and Rosemary Sheldon (Dublin) would value continuing prayer for Colin’s teaching of ‘Bible Explorer’ in the schools and for Rosemary in her work in the assembly. Rosemary has also been able to help at a weekly Bible study held by local ladies.

SPAIN

Ken Barratt (Madrid) would value prayer for teaching both in the church and open air. This includes the Alcala Church’s involvement in the Annual Public Bible Reading 12th March.  Please pray for good weather, a lack of local authority interference, good witness and good work done among contacts.

LOCAL

Coffee & Chat each Wednesday morning at 10:30 am.

Jim McMaster (Bensham) is planned to be with us next Sunday evening for the preaching of the Gospel.
