Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 02-11-09

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  The prayer requests listed here are, as far as is sensibly practical, for activities that are happening on the particular week. A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

The Assembly also publishes a monthly Missionary Prayer Newsletter, for prayer requests on a longer time-scale. Click here for this month's prayer newsletter.

JAPAN

On 7th and 8th November, Ronnie Cairns (Akashi) will be preaching the gospel and teaching at a pioneer work in Izumisano in the south of Osaka. Pray that the Lord will give him the right messages. Pray for the second meeting at the hospice, to take place on 10th November. There will be a Bible talk for the patients, followed by a Bible study for the staff, half of whom are non-Christians.

PHILIPPINES

Jonathan and Jingle Bradford (Manilla) ask for continued prayer as further typhoons are expected during November and December. Pray that they their home will not suffer further damage. Jonathan has been staying in the house to prevent it being looted.

THAILAND

Please pray for Peter Ferry (Phuket), who underwent a cataract operation in Malaysia last Monday. When he returns to Phuket he will be involved in the visit of the OM ship, m.v. “Doulos”, from Nov 18th—27th, helping with translation and conducting Bible studies with crew members.

FRANCE

Gerry and Dorothy Seed (Nantes) ask for prayer for a special ‘Open Doors’ day they will be holding on 7th November, when folk will be invited to the new church building to find out more about their activities. Pray for a good reception from the local community and that contacts will be made.

Alain and Christine Monclair (Quimper Region) ask for prayer for the Centre des Jeunes Christian camp centre at St. Lunaire. Due to current difficulties they are having to reduce the number of paid full-time staff. The board will be meeting from 6th to 8th November and prayer is requested for clear guidance as they make major decisions. Paul and Andrea Smith are planning to join this work shortly.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

Please pray for Noel and Liza McMeekin this week as they run a special outreach week in Drum assembly. The theme is ‘God’s Power to Change Lives’ and includes six evenings of testimonies.

SPAIN

Ken and Alison Barrett (Madrid) report that the church has lost its court case against Alcala City Council. This means that the council will be able to charge them a tax for preaching in the open air and also sets a precedent that may affect other churches. Please pray that suspicion of evangelical groups will be removed. This Saturday, 7th November, outreach teams will come together in Madrid city centre for a 7-hour day of preaching, at 7 different points, in 7 different languages. Pray that many Madrid churches will cooperate and accept their wider responsibility to make Christ known. Pray for conversions and for a positive attitude from the police. Prayer is also requested for Alison’s student camp which takes place this weekend, to train students for university outreach.

LOCAL

"Coffee and Chat" on each Wednesday morning at 10:30 am.

Tom Turton (Redcar) is responsible for the Gospel Service this Sunday, 8th November, at 6:30 pm.
