Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 01-06-2010

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  The prayer requests listed here are, as far as is sensibly practical, for activities that are happening on the particular week. A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

The Assembly also, most months, publishes a monthly Missionary Prayer Newsletter, for prayer requests on a longer time-scale. Click here for the last month's prayer newsletter.

 ANGOLA

Ruth Hadley (Saurimo) was attacked by a man who stood outside her house. He hit her with a rock, but before he could strike again, Ruth managed to take the rock from him. While he was finding another rock, she ran into a shop. In frustration he smashed her car windscreen. Passers by and a guard restrained the man and he was taken to the police station. Ruth is badly shaken, has a sore head and bruising on her arm, but wants to assure everyone that she is recovering well. Pray for this man and for Ruth, that she will recover fully from this worrying incident.

MALAWI

Please pray for Stephen Harper (Thondwe), (right) who has had to attend court to answer to false charges which have been made against him. It seems that Satan is trying to hinder the work, as they are currently planning a two-week gospel campaign in Zomba, to take place later this month.

Ruth Newell (Blantyre) - currently in the UK—has been unwell for some time and needs to rest. Pray that she will recover strength before returning with Jonathan to Malawi in September, especially as they are planning to move house.

ZAMBIA

Barry & Rachel Haigh are planned to return to Zambia on 11th June for 4 months, teaching, preaching and counselling. However the precise arrangements are a little in doubt at the moment because of the BA cabin stewards strike. Pray that they will be kept in good health and free from malaria and other tropical illnesses.

Timothy and Joy Beer (Loloma) ask for continued prayer for the regular gospel outreach in Kabompo on Mondays (see Miss Prayer Requests 04-01-10). The work will continue while they are on furlough. Pray that no maintenance problems will arise at the hospital and mission during their time away.

ITALY

Giuseppe and Rachel Palermo (Milan) request prayer for a young friend of theirs, a Sicilian girl called Mary, who has attended the Tuesday night Bible study and church services. Mary sent a message to Rachel saying that she had ‘finally given in and decided to accept Christ as Saviour and Lord’. Give thanks for this encouragement and pray for Mary, that she will be strong in the face of any opposition she may experience from family and friends. In addition, Giuseppe and Rachel are hosting a team from Germany for ten days. The team will be ministering in Fano, Bergamo and Milan. Pray that this will be a fruitful time.

ROMANIA

Tim and Jenny Gooding (Cluj) are encouraged that two friends who were in their Bible study group seven years ago were baptised at the weekend. Two others from the same group were baptised two years ago and have been witnessing to these friends.

SPAIN

Ken and Alison Barrett request prayer for a course on Saturday, 5th June entitled How does God speak to us through the Scriptures today? Please remember in prayer.

LOCAL

Coffee & Chat each Wednesday morning at 10:30 am.

A first visit to a new Senior Citizen's Home - YEW TREE CARE CENTRE -  is planned for Sunday at 5:15 pm. Please remember in prayer that we may exalt the Lord, and show friendship and kindness to the residents. The visit will include the singing of favourite hymns followed by a 5 min Bible reading and gospel message.

Paul Jackson (Harrogate) is planned to be with us Sunday evening at 6:30 pm for the preaching of the Gospel.
