MALAWI
John and
Priscilla Finegan request
prayer for a difficult situation which has arisen in their
outreach to children. Over
the
last six weeks they have been hiring a
classroom on Thursday mornings
to meet with street children in
Zomba town. They have been
spending time with the children, providing them with a hot meal and
giving them memory verses to learn, and there has been a good
response. However, John and
Priscilla have been denied
further use of the schoolroom as they were not willing to pay bribes
to the Head Teacher. They tried meeting in the open air, but other
children who were jealous threw stones at them. Please
pray that a safe room will be
found in the town for this Thursday,
and for weekly use. Pray that
these 17 children will be challenged by the gospel, and be given
hope for their future.
ZAMBIA
In March 2006
Margaret Hewitt (DPG 1958-2002) – undertook a period of
short-term service at Kalene Hospital. That period has now
come to and end.

Margaret
leaves
Kalene Hospital on 1st September and will fly home on
the 5th. The staff situation at the hospital is no better
than when she arrived. The RNs have dwindled to just three, and they
will all be going off for a month for their graduation. The
maternity section has no trained staff of its own, so short-termer
Helen Hindson will be the only midwife. Please pray
that suitable staff will be found very soon.
LEBANON
Jonathan
and Naomi Dieter have arrived in Lebanon after many hours of
travelling and having lost only one piece of luggage. Please
pray for them as they
continue at the school, and especially in the aftermath of the war,
with all that entails.
Nigel White
(Tyre) has been able to renew friendships with some of the
parents of the schoolchildren, and has heard some amazing stories of
survival. One family were in a block of flats where many people died
when the upper floors were rocketed. The lower half of the building,
where they lived, was saved from collapse, as the bomb targeting it
hit a van which was parked outside. This was the vehicle driven by
Omar,
Mohamad’s brother, which he
had left there earlier. Praise God
that this family and Omar
were unharmed. Please remember those who have lost loved ones, homes
or businesses in the bombing.
