Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 26-07-2010

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  The prayer requests listed here are, as far as is sensibly practical, for activities that are happening on the particular week. A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

The Assembly also, most months, publishes a monthly Missionary Prayer Newsletter, for prayer requests on a longer time-scale. Click here for the last month's prayer newsletter.

D R of CONGO

John and Ruth Hanley (France) report the sad news of a fire in the village of Sangey, north-east Congo, near the area where John has previously visited. About 270 people were killed when trying to recuperate petrol flowing from an overturned fuel tanker. The local church lost about 30 men, women and children in the blaze, as well as many homes. Pray for those who have lost loved ones and possessions.

TANZANIA

Allan and Jacqui McKinnon (Moshi) report that 18 children gave their lives to Christ in the two weeks of children’s camps at Moshi. Give thanks for these encouragements and pray that what the children learned will stay in their hearts as they return home and help them as they begin their Christian walk.

JAPAN

David and Esther Dexter (Miyazaki) are planning a short visit to the UK and request prayer particularly for their flight through Seoul, Korea, on 29th July in view of the current heightened tension with North Korea. Pray, too, that they will be conscious of the Lord’s leading as to who they meet and where they go whilst on furlough. Another leading couple will also be away at that time, so remember the Christians in Miyazaki in their absence.

BAHAMAS

Peter and Sandra Brind are currently in the Bahamas. Peter requests prayer, particularly for his health. He is an asthmatic but usually this is well controlled. However, on 19th July his chest tightened severely, which resulted in him having treatment at an emergency clinic a 40-minute boat ride away. He is feeling much better now and was able to preach on Sunday without a problem. Pray that he will be able to continue to serve on the island and that the Lord will heal this problem. They are due to move to a larger island this Wednesday.

JAMAICA

Nurkle Litchmore is to have oral surgery at Guy’s Hospital on 27th July. Please pray that the operation will be successful and for a good recovery.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

Noel and Liza McMeekin (Drum) would value prayer for the Holiday Bible Club being held in Killeen this week.

SPAIN

Ken and Alison Barrett (Madrid) request prayer for an evangelistic outreach in which the Alcala church is engaged this week with a visiting OM team. Pray for faithfulness, unity, health and protection in this learning process and as they then make the transfer with the team over 700 km to Ferrol in the north-west on Saturday for another week of outreach.

FINALLY

Please pray for the GLO outreaches starting this week. These are in Talmaciu and Lepsa, Romania, from 27th July, in Southern Poland from 31st July, and in Madagascar from 1st August. Pray that the team members will be kept in good health and be effective in their witness.

LOCAL

The monthly visit to the “Yew Tree Care Centre” is planned for this coming Sunday at 5:15pm. Posters about our visit have been displayed in the Home.

The Gospel Service at 6:30 pm is planned to be taken by Andrew Lumsden (Redcar).

Next Wednesday, 4th August,  we are to have a visit from Stephen & Gill Davies (Tanzania) to give a report on the Lord's work in which they are engaged in Dar-es-Salaam.
