Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 23-03-09

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  The prayer requests listed here are, as far as is sensibly practical, for activities that are happening on the particular week. A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

The Assembly also publishes a monthly Missionary Prayer Newsletter, for prayer requests on a longer time-scale, but this is not currently available on the web site.

DEM. REP. OF CONGO

Mary Ratter (Katoka) asks us to pray regarding her passport, which has been misdirected in the post. She is booked to fly to the UK on Wednesday in order to renew her visa, but her passport is somewhere between Brazzaville in Congo and Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo! Pray that she will receive it in time, and that she will be able to obtain a permanent visa for Congo while in the UK.

ZAMBIA

On Monday, 23-03-09, Eric McCaughren (Kitwe) begins an intensive week teaching a 20-hour survey of the Old Testament at GLO Ndola. Please pray for health and stamina and that the students may gain both a better understanding of God’s Word and a real love for it.

JAPAN

Ken and Christine Cowell (Kushio) report that they had a wonderful gospel concert last Saturday, when the Lord’s presence and help were keenly felt. Many were spoken to through the songs and the message. Do pray that the Lord will continue to work in the hearts of those who attended. From 27th-29th March they have a young people’s camp. Over 50 are expected to attend, including a number of non-Christians. A full-time youth worker will give the messages. Pray that unbelievers will come to the Lord and that believers will commit their lives fully to Him.

MYANMAR

Peter Ferry (Phuket) is visiting the cyclone-affected Delta region, and then is due to give Bible teaching in Yangon. Please pray for Peter as he travels and that the Lord will bless him and those he meets.

FRANCE

Ronnie and Heather Skene (right) have returned to Figeac after four weeks of deputation in Northern Ireland. Give thanks that Ronnie’s sciatica is much improved. However, the day before they travelled back, Heather developed shingles and is in a lot of pain, so please pray that she will receive effective treatment and make a quick recovery.

Alison Packer (Laval) has now had her operation and the surgeon was pleased with how it went. She has been in a lot of pain, but this is being controlled with medication. Pray that things will progress normally and that she will soon be able to have the various tubes removed.

Ian and Francoise Newberry (Pierrelatte) have arranged an evangelical concert on 29th March in a concert hall which has been put at their disposal by the local authorities. The choir from Aix-en-Provence Theological College will be singing in a variety of styles. Pray that this event will help build bridges with the community.

SPAIN

Ken and Alison Barrett (Madrid) ask for prayer for the Alcala and Azuqueca church weekend away, from 27th-29th March. Pray for the speaker, Javier Sgorbini, and especially for the young believers and several interested visitors who will be present. Pray that the Lord will speak to them as a church, and that those who are not yet saved will be soundly converted.

 LOCAL

"Coffee & Chat" each Wednesday morning at 10:30 am.

Jim McMaster (Bensham) is planned to be with us for the preaching of the Gospel on Sunday evening.
