Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 23 - 02 - 09

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  The prayer requests listed here are, as far as is sensibly practical, for activities that are happening on the particular week. A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

The Assembly also publishes a monthly Missionary Prayer Newsletter, for prayer requests on a longer time-scale, but this is not currently available on the web site.

MALAWI

Give thanks that Stephen and Gail Harper (Thondwe) have at last been able to open their bookshop. There has been a lot of interest in the English Bibles, and now they are worried about how they can quickly replace these if they go out of stock! Pray for the official launch of the bookshop, planned for Saturday 28th, when a number of local dignitaries will be present. Chichewa Bibles will be on special offer, to encourage non-English speakers to read the Word of God.

BRAZIL

Harry Reid’s bypass surgery, planned for 19th February, was postponed and he should now have had  the operation on 23rd February, in the afternoon. Prayer would be appreciated for a good recovery.

CANADA

Peter Smith was used over the past month by the Lord to bring the blessing of salvation to several Teenagers in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Next week he commences 'Treasure Seekers' in Winnipeg, (D.V.). He has seen blessing in the past here and  they expect between 60-80 children this time; please pray that the Lord will be pleased to work once again for His glory.

FRANCE

Mike and Alison Packer (Laval) would value prayer for an outreach event to be held on 28th, when non-Christian friends will be invited to a meal and concert at the church. The group called ‘Last Chance’, comprises Mike and fellow-missionary Chris Hall, and they will be performing and sharing their testimony.

Congratulations to Yannick and Margaret Ollivier on the birth of baby Thomas, who was born on 23rd February. Thomas has a lot of tubes connected but is doing well and Yannick and Margaret were able to hold him for a few minutes. Please pray on for this precious new life, that the Lord will bless and keep him.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

Noel and Liza McMeekin (Cootehill) continue their Postal Bible School prize givings this week in  Edgeworthstown on 25th and Navan on 26th. Please pray for safety as they travel many miles and especially during the hours of darkness, and pray, too, for a sense of God’s presence and for help for the speakers as they make known the gospel message.

SPAIN

Ken and Alison Barrett (Madrid) request prayer for Ken who visits Gijón in Asturias, northern Spain, from 27th February-3rd March. He is taking part in the annual meeting of the Spanish Evangelical Alliance and also giving a conference on the history of George Borrow in the province, as part of the 130th anniversary celebrations organised for this year by the assembly there. Pray for the civic witness given, for new local contacts as a result of the conference, and for people to read the paper which will be published after the event.

OTHERS

Echoes have  notified us that Peter Hedley (Albania & N. Italy) is in hospital with an inner ear infection, which has affected his balance, making him feel very unwell. Please pray that he will recover soon.

LOCAL

"Coffee & Chat" each Wednesday morning at 10:30 am.

Peter Smith (Wallsend) is expected to be with us this Sunday at 6:30 pm for the preaching of the Gospel.
