MISSIONARY
PRAYER REQUESTS:
OCTOBER 2015
ANGOLA
Brian & Debbie Howden
are planned to return to Angola from 9th October to 12th
November. They particularly ask prayer for the following:
-
·For a container that left the UK last week with 6000 Portuguese
Bibles and other much needed items. Pray that the
container will not be held up by port authorities in Luanda but
that it might pass through the red tape and corruption easily.
-
·That the Lord will give me wisdom in repairing a printing
machine that has broken down in Saurimo. It is important
that this is fixed as our other machine is away in Luanda and
still not repaired and so printing of Emmaus courses etc has
stopped.
-
·For
Bible studies that will be held with elders from the
Camundambala assembly focusing on Doctrines of The Gospel,
that they will be helped to grasp Bible truths that will in turn
equip them to preach the Gospel of the Bible.
D. R. of CONGO
Tony and Annie Harvey
(Whitley Bay) are visiting their sister, Mary Ratter,
from the 20th October for 2 months. They
have various tasks lined up, one of which is Tony
doing a week’s teaching at the Bible School in November on
the book of Amos. Please remember them in prayer.
MALAWI
John and Priscilla Finegan (Zomba)–
John has been spending time meeting with inmates who have been
saved in prison. At a special "open air" meeting in the
exercise area on Sept. 22nd, 65 prisoners were each
presented with a Certificate commending their achievement of
completing at least 10 Emmaus Courses; 11 others - some of
whom had been transferred to other prisons, and some
released - were also presented with Certificates for
achieving the same standard. A Warder commented that
although the prison service had
many corrective procedures and opportunities, it was only
the Spirit of God and the Word of God could change a man's
heart. Please remember in prayer the on-going prison
work at Zombe.
REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA
Rodney and Joy Brown (Cape Town)
will be conducting a children’s Holiday Bible Club at
Belhar Community Centre from 6th- 8th
October. Please pray for this event and for all
the children who attend, that they will see their need for a
Saviour.
Paul and Dorothy Grieve (Murchison)
would value prayer for a special week of Bible
teaching planned in Port Shepstone, which will be given by
Stephen Grant from Scotland. Please pray for
all those who hear His message and that it would have a
lasting impact on their lives.
ZAMBIA
Barry
and Rachel Haigh (DPG Zambia 1966/77-06)
would like to thank those who prayed for the court
case which took place on the 7th September.
Barry and Rachel arrived at the court safely
after facing a difficult nine hour journey but the accusing
party did not turn up. Barry and Rachel do not
know what will happen next, and would value prayer
for the Lord to work in this situation and for there to be a
positive outcome.
Jamie and Marilyn McIlree (Chingola)
– Please pray for Jamie who will be going to
the Congo at the start of October. He plans to do
more work on a magazine, which will contain a gospel message
for people in the local area, and would also like to do a
week of Bible teaching in Luanza if time will allow.
Ian and Marilyn Campbell (Chingola)
– Please continue to pray for the opportunities in the
prisons in Kabwe in sharing the Emmaus courses. The road
from Chingola to Kabwe is often dangerous and will
necessitate a five hour journey, leaving the team with only
three and a half hours with the students. Pray for all those
involved in this ministry, that the Lord will keep them safe
and bless the work they are doing with the prisoners.
INDIA
Ian
and Anita Elliott – Please pray for
their ongoing visa situation. An appeal was launched on the
21st September and all of the paperwork
submitted. Please remember Ian, Anita and the
family in your prayers as they go through this
difficult time, and for the Lord to work in this situation
and bring it to a satisfactory conclusion.
Benji
Daniel has recently been in Nadrala village (Fiji)
and would value prayer, as the church has recently
faced difficulties and the believers need encouragement in
the Lord. Benji has seen four Hindus come to know the
Lord during this time and they have joined the local
assembly. Continue to pray for him in this ministry
and that he will be given the strength to continue in his
responsibilities.
Benji
and Gill plan to travel to India and Nepal in the
near future, please pray for the preparation required
for this visit and for all the activities they have planned
in this area.
LEBANON
Andrea Smith (Tyre)
– Please pray for all the refugees from Syria who
have fled to Lebanon and neighbouring countries. Many of the
children are working in fields, deprived of education and
their childhood. Pray that the Lord will work in this
situation and that many will come to know His saving grace.
BAHAMAS
Mark and Carol Lacey –
On 2nd October,
the islands were hit by Hurricane Jaoquin, and while the
north and south of the Bahamas were spared, the south
eastern islands have experienced devastation. Some islands
are reporting 85% destruction of property, serious land
erosion, loss of crops and animal stock. Please pray
for all those affected by this terrible storm, and for those
involved in providing aid to those in need.
PERU
Peter and Anne Grover (Lima)
– On 16th October Peter will begin teaching an
evening class on ‘Exodus’ and Anne will begin to teach
English. Pray for them both in these activities
and for a number of other ministries that have now
recommenced upon their return.
ALBANIA
Peter Hedley
asks for prayer for a MISSIONARY CONFERENCE IN
MONTENEGRO from the 13th – 17th October. They
expect about one hundred Albanian and missionary workers to
gather for prayer, Bible teaching and fellowship.
May they all be encouraged during this time of sharing, and
enthused to maintain spiritual vigour in the task of
evangelizing Albanians and building up local churches.
Peter
has been asked to teach in various assemblies. Pray
for safety in travel and for his preparation of these talks.
Peter
would value prayer for the assembly in Vlore;
they are currently seeking to sell the assembly building, in
the hope of finding a larger venue. Please pray for
all those involved in this endeavour and for the Lord to
provide an appropriate venue for His people.
FRANCE
Mike and Alison Packer (Laval)
would value prayer for their local church, which is
now in the process of moving. A new building has been
acquired and a team from the church are helping to transport
everything to the new location. Pray for all involved
in this process and that the Lord will bless the church in
this new location.
William and Liz Irwin (Nantes)
– Please remember Liz in prayer who has
started to teach Christian Culture in their children’s
school every other week. She has already had opportunities
to share her faith in this aspect with other staff, and
would appreciate prayer that the Lord will continue
to work in this situation.
Joël and Amanda Burger (Ventabren)
would value prayer for a
seminar arranged from 26th-31st
October, which is called
Fil a Plomb Divin
(The Divine Plumb Line). This
will offer attendees excellent teaching and a time to focus
on their relationship with the Lord. Please pray for
all those who attend and for those involved in leading the
event, pray especially for a cook to come forward for
the event as one has not been found yet.
In addition, please pray
for an issue regarding some land belonging to a neighbour of
l’Eau Vive. The owner faces continuous
pressure to sell to housing developers, though had
previously promised to sell the land to l’Eau Vive.
Pray that God will work in this situation and that
the owner will guard their heart from constant pressure.
Graham
and Alison Black report that they will receive
the visit of their radio presenter Daniel Corones on
the 10th of this month. Daniel will come and do the
introduction and conclusion to around 40 programmes which
will be the next batch of programmes to be sent out to the
55 or so radio stations that broadcast them throughout the
French speaking world.
We continue to be encouraged through the three main avenues
of the ministry here : Radio, Bible Correspondence Courses
and the Printed Page.
IRELAND
David and Kay Stevens
(Dublin) – David has recently started his Radium
treatment and is required to attend hospital daily from
Monday to Friday, for the next seven weeks. Pray for
David during this treatment process and that he will
make a full recovery.
Colin and Rosemary Sheldon (Dublin)
– Colin has begun the teaching of the ‘Bible
Explorer’ series this term; 18 primary schools have
opened their doors for this teaching and over 50 programmes
have been arranged. Please pray for him in this
ministry and for this opportunity to share the Word of God
with these young children.
Noel and Liza McMeekin (Drum)
would value prayer for the distribution of gospel
magazines in Cootehill. Please pray that the
Lord will prepare hearts to receive the gospel, and for all
of those involved in the task of distribution.
NORWAY
Please remember in prayer Nat Rodgers (Skien)
as he travels to the Ukraine with a number of Norwegian
workers, to provide relief aid to those in need.
TURKEY
Derek Malcolm
is scheduled to be in Istanbul from Sept. 29th
to 8th October and would appreciate
prayer. He reports that at
the beginning of September threats of a “jihadist” nature
were sent to Turkish church leaders, most of whom had become
Christians from Muslim backgrounds. This has left the
Protestant community anxious.
OTHER SERVICE
Remember the work of “The Society for Distributing
Hebrew Scriptures”. Pray that in the
creeping advance of her bitterest enemies, Israel,
the people of the Book may turn to it, read the Words of
life and believe them.
Please pray for the ongoing work of faith at the
Cyprus Logos School, reaching almost 300 children from
over 30 nationalities representing many religious and social
backgrounds. They hear the gospel daily while receiving a
first class education up to A-level.
Pray
for David McKillen and his visits to Francistown,
Botswana, his prison ministry, and visits to Refugee Camps.
Remember his teaching ministry in many areas of Southern
Africa including Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Pray for the
GLO
team in Aix-en-Provence,
France, where team leaders
Philippe Perrilliat and Brad Dickson
will lead an exciting new
church planting initiative from 10th – 17th
October. They will be working among the 30,000 students
in the university town, with street evangelism and
literature distribution.
