MISSIONARY PRAYER NEWSLETTER

APRIL 2014

ANGOLA

Brian Howden’s next visit will be on the 29th April – 22nd May D.V and it is during this visit that Debbie's residence card is due for renewal again, so they will be submitting the process to the Dept. of Immigration at the beginning of May.  Please pray that, in His will, this will be renewed once again.

D C R of CONGO

Mary Ratter (Katoka) came home on 26th March for 2 months furlough. There is no news about the missing Bibles.

SOUTH AFRICA

Paul and Dorothy Grieve (Murchison) - Give thanks that in recent weeks, there has been a sudden increase in the number of Zulu Emmaus courses being requested by prisoners in various prisons. They are also grateful for the Lord's protection when a large wheel from a lorry travelling in the opposite direction to them came off and smashed into the front of their car.

TANZANIA
Steve and Gill Davies (Dar-es-Salaam) - Stephen has given a 5-session series of teaching an overview of the Bible. The elders acknowledge that very few believers read their Bibles regularly or systematically. After this initial introduction, to try to stimulate an interest and a desire to read more, one of elders will give a 30 minute summary of each book of the Bible and draw out key truths from it. Prayer is asked for those giving the Bible teaching as time must be found to read, study and prepare in order to give to others what they have first gleaned themselves, and that it would result in many benefitting from this teaching, giving them a deeper hunger for God’s Word.

ZAMBIA
Eric and Margaret McCaughren (Kitwe) –Many children are attending the Saturday morning Good News Club even though some understand little or no English. Pray that Margaret would find a suitable helper for this work who will be dedicated and speak the Bemba language. In addition, pray for the Bible study group that meets at the Kitwe School of Nursing. This year regular attendance has declined to an all time low. Pray that more students will be encouraged to join, and that those who attend would do so regularly.

Julie-Rachel Elwood (Chitokoloki) was recently given a trailer to transport hospital patients to and from the villages. During the last few months many have approached her requesting a lift to and from the church services. This work has now expanded and with the help of colleagues they have been able to do 3-4 trips on a Sunday allowing people to attend who otherwise would not have been able to. Pray for safety in travel.

ALBANIA

Peter Hedley writes that the assemblies in Vlore and Orikum, in the SW of Albania plan to hold their usual Easter camp.  The main speaker this year will be Mimmo Ciociola from an assembly in Manfredonia in the SE of Italy.  They have worked together in Albania for years and he is a gifted teacher.  His theme at the conference this year will be ‘Leadership in the Local Church’.  Please pray that the expected over one hundred believers present may greatly benefit.

FRANCE
Chris and Michelle Hall (Chatequ Gontier) would value prayer for a young woman, a Jehovah's Witness, with whom they have been able to share various Bible teachings concerning the Lord Jesus.

ITALY

Rod Jones (Naples) reports that lack of employment is creating significant problems for several families in the church. Some are months behind in their rent and other bills, as the “breadwinners” have been without any work for some time. Some of their young people are currently in England looking for employment, and others will need to make decisions in the near future. They have about 25 young people in the 19+ age group, but only five have stable employment. Their ministry of mercy team is able to bring food parcels to the needy families, which is a help. Please do pray that the Lord will bless through these difficult times.

MACEDONIA
Olive Wilson (Bitola) would value prayer for the literature centre which is open on a daily basis. Visitors have received New Testaments and Bibles with literature explaining the Gospel message. Pray that many would read, understand the message and come to put their faith in Christ.

NORWAY

Mrs Margaret Hewitt (DPG 1973-2004) -  Seeks prayer as she will soon be needing a hip replacement and is currently in a great deal of pain, having recently broken some ribs.

SPAIN

Tim and Elena Glasscock (Salamanca) asks prayer for Spain that the people would come to understand the centrality of the Word of God in their lives, for believers that they would be bold in their witness to others in areas of unbelief and hostility, and for the young people that they would grow in faith and become strong leaders within the churches of Spain. In addition, pray that there would not be division amongst believers over matters that are secondary to the Word of God, leading to conflict within the churches.
