MISSIONARY PRAYER NEWSLETTER

AUGUST  2013

 EGYPT

Please pray for a restoration of peace in Egypt, for Egyptian believers in fear and need, and for those who are bereaved and have lost loved ones.

MALAWI
John and Priscilla Finegan (Zomba) (right) – The third and final revision of another Emmaus Bible Study course in Chichewa has been completed.  This is timely, as in a few weeks the course will be needed for many of the 250 prisoners studying the Word through Emmaus, in the local prison. Pray that those who take part would come to know Christ through these studies.

RWANDA
Peter and Jenny Andrews – request prayer for the situation in Eastern Congo where once again fighting is leading to displacement and death. However, our church coordinator in the region, Israel, says that recently 72 people were baptised in the refugee camp for which praise should be given to God. Jenny has been in Rwanda, teaching social workers in the orphans project, teaching cooking in the Skills Training centre and leading a women's seminar in Byumba. We should give thanks for the good work continuing in Rwanda.

TANZANIA
Steve and Gill Davies (Dar-es-Salaam) – Please pray for "A" and her 2 children. "A", abandoned by her husband and  relatives when they found out she was unwell, attends the meetings on Sundays and receives aid parcels from the WWT Centre (Day Care Centre). Pray that she will understand the Gospel message and that her health would improve (she suffers from severe asthma).

ZAMBIA

Barry and Rachel Haigh (DPG Zambia 1966-2006) - Please pray for them as they travel to Zambia on the 4th August.

Tim and Joy Beer (Loloma) – During the month of August many conferences are being held. Pray for two general conferences, two marriage conferences, and a Bible conference being held at the centre in Samafunda. Pray that the Lord will bless the teaching, and strengthen the local assemblies in this region.

Ian and Marilyn Campbell (Chingola) - The Emmaus work continues to thrive, especially in the prisons and markets. Pray that as they continue to enjoy the personal contact with students and the opportunities to discuss spiritual issues with them, it will bring them to Christ. The Bible bookshop is getting busier as word of their affordable prices gets out! They sell on average 200 Bibles per week. Pray that these Bibles will be read and not used as a status symbol.

In addition, Ian would appreciate prayer for complete healing in his feet. After a fall in March they have been slow to heal and still quite swollen, continuing to cause difficulty when walking.

INDIA
Ian and Anita Elliott (New Delhi) – Pray for "I" (aged 18) who was recently baptised and is now preparing to leave India, to study in the UK. Pray for Ian and Anita as they need to vacate their house by 5th August, which means placing their belongings in storage.

PAKISTAN
Harry and Stephanie Lannon (Murree) – Pray for safety in travel as Stephanie and their daughter Colleen return to Murree Christian School on 31st July for the new term starting 5th August. Six of the staff still await visas and these seem unlikely to be granted in the near future.  Pray that the remaining staff would have wisdom to know the way forward. Pray for Harry who will remain in Belfast with their son Jamie who starts university soon.

PHILIPPINES
Jonathan and Jingle Bradford (Manila) - Pray for Jonathan as he engages in ministry at the local gym. Five people have joined the Bible study recently, and together they are having an impact in the gym itself as their workouts often turn into Bible studies and provide opportunity for evangelism. Pray for "P" who first shared a Bible study with Jonathan, a professional body builder who has joined the weekly discipleship group and is now active in the church, and for Jonathan, who is pleased to report that he is in good health and staying fit!

2-weeks later: Jonathan has been very unwell and is currently on medication and bed rest for 2 weeks after being taken to hospital with a severe UTI infection.  Pray that he will be able to rest, and that the medication will relieve symptoms and restore him to good health again.

ARGENTINA
Dick and Irene Robertson (senior workers) – Pray for Irene teaching Sunday School in Oran each Sunday morning and during the afternoon in a town 17km from Oran. Pray that the children will attend and be attentive to what is being taught, as recently they have been badly behaved and very difficult to teach.  In addition, please pray for Dick who is not enjoying the best of health at this time.

BOLIVIA
Marion and Helen Ponce (Cochabamba) – Pray for Helen that she would have wisdom, compassion and strength to minister to the women she visits in prison. There are about 200 children in prison with their mothers.

CANADA

Peter Smith starts tent meetings (D.V.) on the 4th of August. . 'Camp Treasure Seekers' has been held annually for the past four years at 5th Avenue Gospel Hall, Portage la Prairie. It is a week of morning meetings followed by games or crafts. Please pray for the preparations and specifically that they don't have a repeat of the security issues they faced with the tent last year.

MEXICO
Eglon and Judith Harris (Orizaba) ask prayer for the outreach work in Tequila. Around 25 children gather each Saturday for Bible Club, and when the workers take them home they stop to talk to parents.  Pray that children and adults will come to understand the message of the Gospel, and that a testimony may soon be established in Tequila.

FRANCE
Graham and Alison Black are pleased to report that the ‘Voice of the Gospel Ministry’ are receiving regular requests from radio stations to broadcast programmes. They have added 6 to the list recently, and a new phenomenon amongst those is the request from Web Radio Stations. One of these is situated in the South East of France where they have had no radio stations so far. The person who set up this station reports that they have around 6.000 listeners each month. Please continue to pray for this ministry.

Gerald and Dorothy Seed – Le Livre Christian bookshop has come through a major transition period recently. Patsy, an American missionary, retired at the end of February and has been replaced by a dedicated and enthusiastic team of 9 volunteers. The shop has been completely renovated and a new computer system installed. The changes seem to be paying off with increased sales and contacts with unbelievers. One lady who has lived in the same building as the shop for 7 years entered for the first time after the renovations, and has already made substantial steps towards conversion. Please pray for her, and pray that this bookshop would not only be an instrument of blessing to the believers but a vital tool in the spread of the Gospel in the heart of the city.

ITALY
Regin and Heidi Guttesen – A children’s outreach is held every Saturday with between 20-30 attending. Pray for these children, that they may be encouraged to know more of Christ.

Rod & Debbie Jones (Naples) - Please do pray for us as we prepare for the youth camp we are due to run towards the end of August. For the first time we are holding it D.V. at a campsite on the east coast of Italy in the Foggia province. Please pray for safe travel and protection and blessing at the camp.

August is a great time for visitation, as most folks do not go away on holiday, and hence it is a good opportunity to spend quality time together with families in the church. The usual problems and challenges of life are made more acute by the financial difficulties of the times. Several of our young people are considering what steps to take now that they have finished university, and need to find employment. Please pray.

NORWAY
Margaret Hewitt - The local Sunday school closes over the summer holidays.  Pray that all those who have been attending, and others too will return when it resumes in September.  Margaret asks continuing prayer for her sons "E" and "G" (who has now been able to return to work part time) and also a close friend "J", who is due to have heart surgery
early in August.
