MISSIONARY PRAYER NEWSLETTER

September 2011

ANGOLA

Brian & Debbi Howden are now safely back home and report that the printing work in Saurimo is going well, and it was encouraging to see the recent consignment of Portuguese Bibles being made available to the people, with many new titles of sound books and commentaries obtainable from the Emmaus work.

Overall it was a very profitable visit, and they were so thankful for the prayers of the Lords people especially this first visit back without the boys. Please continue to remember the work at Saurimo.

Remember too in prayer Ruth Hadley and the shortage of teachers.

REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA

Paul and Dorothy Grieve (Murchison) have been concerned at the drop in numbers of people studying the scriptures through the Emmaus Bible Correspondence courses, especially in a large prison complex in Durban. They used to have several hundred prisoners in this section studying the courses, but now there is only a handful. Pray for numbers to be resumed.

ZAMBIA

Barry & Rachel Haigh continue with their visit to Nyangombe. There is still no news with regards the Court Case on the ownership of the Bible School property. Please remember in prayer.

JAPAN

Tom and Nui Hill (Koshigaya) - Recently a number of young people have been attending the meetings at the fellowship in Matsubushi and they ask prayer for several of them. Two brothers, arrive very early on Sundays to take Bible Studies with an elder, and Hayato, a 16yr old boy, has expressed an interest in being saved, baptised, and being able to join in the breaking of bread, but his parents will not allow this as they have no interest in the Gospel .

Remember too in prayer  Ken & Christine Cowell, who have returned to Japan until the 15th September and plan to visit the area of previous service around Kushiro.

PHILIPPINES

Jonathan and Jingle Bradford (Manila) ask prayer for the ministry in the Philippine assembly whilst they are in the UK.  Pray for Micah and Miren who are leading their discipleship group, and also pray for Jingle’s family, who depend on them, especially since the flood in 2009 which destroyed much of their home. Prayer is asked that when Jonathan and Jingle return they may be able to find a safer location for all of them to live in.

ARGENTINA

Heber and Fiona Gallitto (Parana) ask prayer for Valentina(14yrs) and her brother Matias(12yrs) who were baptised in January. Due to divorce they live with their father who will not normally allow them to attend meetings, although recently they were allowed to attend a Saturday Teens group and stay overnight, enabling them to be present on the Sunday.  Pray for them and for those who try to encourage them in their faith in these difficult circumstances.

BOLIVIA

Mario and Helen Ponce (Cochabamba) ask prayer for believers in Colomi (close to where they are in Cochabamba) where recently over 100 people were injured during riots.

David & Lorna Brickman (Lorna is Graham Edwards’ daughter) have recently gone into full time service at Trinidad-Beni, Bolivia. They ask prayer support for:

  • Spanish language learning

  • School residential camps in September.

  • A deepening of relationships with those they meet and work with daily.

BRAZIL

Simon and Judy Quelch (Juiz de Fora) ask for prayer support for Simon as he prepares a 15 week course on ‘How to read the Bible’ for University Students. The plan is to work through the course with a group of 5 students each term. Pray for him as he continues to be involved in one-to-one Bible studies with various folk on Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings.

ALBANIA

Enris and Sylvia Nase - Every Saturday, the small church in Tirana distribute tracts near the city centre.  They have a big screen showing different quotations, whilst handing out tracts and engaging in conversation. Pray for new believers within the assembly, and those who encourage them in the faith.

Peter Hedley writes: Praise the Lord for encouragement during the children and youth camps in Gjirokaster during the summer.  Several made clear professions of faith in Christ, including two from the children’s home.  Please pray for Marijan Nyhof, now in her sixties.  We don’t know how the orphanage there would continue without her.  She needs your prayer and support in this wonderful work of mercy among abandoned children.

FRANCE

David and Brigitte Sutherland (Arras) advise that Brigitte had an Emmaus stand at a recent summer camp. One lady ordered 5 courses. She had previously studied a Bible correspondence course in 2004 but since that time had not shown an interest in spiritual matters.  Please pray that her interest will be sustained.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND
Colin and Rosemary Sheldon (Dublin)
would appreciate prayer in preparation for the Autumn programme.  Rosemary will be involved in the ladies work at the assembly, and also among local ladies.  Colin will be restarting the ‘Bible Explorer’ programme in the new school year.  Prayer is asked that there will be many openings again this year.
