MISSIONARY PRAYER NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER  2010

ANGOLA

Brian Howden  will be having meetings in Muriege, Chiluage and Muconda from 29th August until 5th September. It will be his first visit for many years to this area and the work is very small and fragile, so please pray that it will be an encouragement to the Lords people and that as he moves among them the Word of God will have free course once again.

He then returns to Camundambala, and leaves for Lubalo on the 6th Sept for 3 days.  Please pray for wisdom and grace to help meet some of the issues the work is facing in that area of Lunda Norte. On both these visits brethren from Saurimo and Camundambala are expected to be with him.

TANZANIA

William and Eunice Rea (Moshi) are thinking of setting up a training scheme at the Bible college for people to learn how to use computers.

A businessman from Moshi town has offered to help with this. Pray for them as they discuss this matter with church leaders and look for a teacher for the project who can also do basic accounting.

ZIMBABWE

Deryck Jones reports that every week they have a meal on a Saturday for orphans and widows at the church in Bulawayo.  On one occasion they had a combined meal with the Assembly resulting in over 400 present.

He is in the process of arranging another distribution to the needy in the assemblies around the Harare area for early September.

There have been more baptisms over the past 2 months.

An outreach to a community 30 kms outside Bulawayo has been going well, and there are weekly meetings, with representatives from our assembly in town going out there.

On Thursday night he has a Bible study with some mature people, but young as Christians. This has been going well and has been a great encouragement. We have just completed 'Christianity Explored'.

INDIA

Ron Penny (Bangalore) requests prayer for 32 year-old Christian worker Gabba Singh, who works with Ranjit Bagh in Gwalior. Gabba is in intensive care after being injured in a hit-and-run accident caused by a drunk driver. The police are looking for the other driver, but if he does not have insurance, Gabba and the local assembly will face huge medical bills. Gabba has multiple fractures in his leg, which now has 22 stitches. Please pray for his wife Bhagabati and their two young children.

PAKISTAN

Pray for those who have been affected by the recent floods in north-west Pakistan.

Echoes have heard from Yunis Lal Din, at the Women’s Christian Hospital in Multan, that they are treating flood victims at the hospital. There are 22 relief camps around Multan, with about 7,000 displaced people, and there are also many victims staying with friends or relatives. Pray for Yunis and the staff as they try to help in this desperate situation.

CANADA

Peter Smith is due to have an operation on his right hand on Sept. 2nd for Carpule Tunnel Syndrome, but don't have any more series of Meetings until the third week of Sept. in Mitchell, God willing. He will be spending his time this month primarily on PBS work that has slipped over the summer, plus preparations for a road trip west for four more series of Treasure Seekers.

MEXICO

Eglon and Judith Harris (Orizaba) have requested prayer for the 4th and 11th September, when they will have seminars for the Sunday school teachers.

FRANCE

Please pray for John and Ruth Hanley (Lesmahagow), who are visiting southern France  until the end of September, working with the Uzès church in outreach and visiting contacts, primarily among North Africans. Uzes is  an historic town about 30 miles  west of Avignon.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND
David Stevens (Castleconnell)
asks for prayer as he begins the Bible Explorer work in the schools again next month. Two young women have asked to be trained as Bible Explorer teachers and will accompany him for some of the lessons in October. Pray that the local primary school will be sympathetic to this, and pray for Michaela and Eveline as they learn the 76 hand-signs and keywords in preparation.

SPAIN

Ken Barrett (Madrid) recently set up and took part in a couple of audio interviews for the Spanish Protestant news agency web page, with interviewer Beatriz Garrido. Please pray that these interviews will stimulate missionary interest and provide other media contacts.

Tim Glasscock (Salamanca) (left) is devoting this month to writing his share of the Scripture Union Bible reading notes for the coming year, and preparing materials for the Project Ephesus Bible Study programme. Pray for the Lord’s help in these important tasks.

Prayer is requested for an immigrant family in Salamanca. The husband, who was from Turkey, was killed in a road accident recently. Pray for his Bulgarian wife Asya and their ten year-old daughter Bibosh.

LEBANON

Nigel White (Tyre) requests prayer as he visits government offices to obtain official papers for the staff at the school. One request has already been refused and another is taking a while to be processed. Please pray for a student who made a commitment last year who is coming under considerable pressure to reconsider.
