ANGOLA
Brian
Howden will be having meetings in Muriege, Chiluage and
Muconda from 29th August until 5th
September. It will be his first visit for many years to this
area and the work is very small and fragile, so please
pray that it will be an
encouragement to the Lords people and that as he moves among them
the Word of God will have free course once again.
He then returns to
Camundambala, and leaves for
Lubalo on the
6th Sept for 3 days. Please
pray for wisdom and grace to
help meet some of the issues the work is facing in that area of
Lunda Norte. On both these visits brethren from Saurimo and
Camundambala are expected to be with him.
TANZANIA
William
and Eunice Rea (Moshi) are thinking of setting up a training
scheme at the Bible college for people to learn how to use
computers.
A businessman from Moshi town has offered
to help with this. Pray for
them as they discuss this matter with church leaders and look for a
teacher for the project who can also do basic accounting.
ZIMBABWE
Deryck
Jones reports that every week they have a meal on a Saturday
for orphans and widows at the church in
Bulawayo. On one occasion
they had a combined meal with the Assembly resulting in over 400
present.
He is in the process of arranging another
distribution to the needy in the assemblies around the
Harare area for early
September.
There have been more baptisms over the
past 2 months.
An outreach to a community 30 kms outside
Bulawayo has been going well,
and there are weekly meetings, with representatives from our
assembly in town going out there.
On Thursday night he has a Bible study
with some mature people, but young as Christians. This has been
going well and has been a great encouragement. We have just
completed 'Christianity Explored'.
INDIA
Ron
Penny (Bangalore) requests
prayer for 32 year-old Christian worker
Gabba Singh, who works with
Ranjit Bagh in Gwalior.
Gabba is in intensive care
after being injured in a hit-and-run accident caused by a drunk
driver. The police are looking for the other driver, but if he does
not have insurance, Gabba and
the local assembly will face huge medical bills.
Gabba has multiple fractures
in his leg, which now has 22 stitches. Please
pray for his wife
Bhagabati and their two young
children.
PAKISTAN
Pray
for those who have been affected by the recent floods in north-west
Pakistan.
Echoes have heard from
Yunis Lal Din, at the Women’s
Christian Hospital in Multan, that they are treating flood victims
at the hospital. There are 22 relief camps around Multan, with about
7,000 displaced people, and there are also many victims staying with
friends or relatives. Pray
for Yunis and the staff as
they try to help in this desperate situation.
CANADA
Peter
Smith is due to have an operation on his right hand on
Sept. 2nd for
Carpule Tunnel Syndrome, but
don't have any more series of Meetings until the third week of Sept.
in Mitchell, God willing. He
will be spending his time this month primarily on PBS work that has
slipped over the summer, plus preparations for a road trip west for
four more series of Treasure Seekers.
MEXICO
Eglon and
Judith Harris (Orizaba) have requested prayer for the
4th and 11th September, when
they will have seminars for the Sunday school teachers.
FRANCE
Please
pray for John and Ruth Hanley
(Lesmahagow), who are visiting southern France until the end
of September, working with the Uzès
church in outreach and visiting contacts, primarily among North
Africans. Uzes is an
historic town about 30 miles west of Avignon.
REPUBLIC
OF IRELAND
David Stevens (Castleconnell) asks for
prayer as he begins the
Bible Explorer
work in the schools again next month. Two young women have
asked to be trained as Bible Explorer teachers and will accompany
him for some of the lessons in October.
Pray that the local primary
school will be sympathetic to this, and pray for
Michaela and
Eveline as they learn the 76
hand-signs and keywords in preparation.
SPAIN
Ken
Barrett (Madrid) recently set up and took part in a couple of
audio interviews for the Spanish Protestant news agency web page,
with interviewer Beatriz Garrido. Please
pray that these interviews
will stimulate missionary interest and provide other media contacts.
Tim
Glasscock (Salamanca) (left) is devoting this month to
writing his share of the Scripture Union Bible reading notes for the
coming year, and preparing materials for the Project Ephesus Bible
Study programme. Pray for the
Lord’s help in these important tasks.
Prayer
is requested for an immigrant family in
Salamanca. The husband, who
was from Turkey, was killed in a road accident recently. Pray for
his Bulgarian wife Asya and
their ten year-old daughter Bibosh.
LEBANON
Nigel
White (Tyre) requests prayer
as he visits government offices to obtain official papers for the
staff at the school. One request has already been refused and
another is taking a while to be processed. Please
pray for a student who made a
commitment last year who is coming under considerable pressure to
reconsider.
