ETHIOPIA
The six-week Bible
School continues in
Chobi.
Please pray
for the students who attend and that the
teachers will receive wisdom and help from
the Lord during this time. Pray particularly
for Alimu
Bogale, who is giving the teaching
this week, from
19th-24th.
MALAWI
Jonathan and
Ruth Newell (Blantyre) say that the
Malawian government has changed some of the
rules concerning Temporary Employment Permit
(TEP) applications. The
Newells
cannot stay in Malawi without a TEP.
Jonathan
and Ruth’s
application for a renewal is due at the end
of this month. These changes could also be a
problem for other missionaries. Please
pray
that the application process will go
smoothly and that it will continue to be
possible to apply for TEPs for them and
other missionaries in the future.
JAPAN
Ken and
Christine Cowell (Kushiro) request
prayer
for a significant church meeting being held
on 25th
January at Kushiro. At this meeting,
the leadership of the church will pass
completely into the hands of the Japanese
brethren. Until now,
Ken
has shared this role with
Hiro,
the full-time worker, but from next Sunday
Hiro
will be joined by three other brethren who
will be appointed as leaders. Over the past
months much
prayer has been offered up about
these appointments and the Lord’s guidance
has been clearly felt. There is a real sense
of unity in the fellowship and the Lord is
blessing the work.
Last year, nine
believers were baptised and there are three
others who want to be baptised; there are
now over 90 in fellowship and the church has
a vision to move forward; a new outreach has
started in a small town 20 miles from
Kushiro. So there is much for which to
praise the Lord. Please pray for next
Sunday’s meeting, that God will anoint these
new leaders with the necessary power and
abilities to carry out their new roles.
Ken
and
Christine will still be around for
advice before their return to the UK in May.
PANAMA
Clive and
Hazel Walker (Santiago) have just
received a consignment of 10,000 Scripture
calendars, plus assorted tracts and
booklets.
Pray for open doors to receive these.
Pray
also for
Hazel, who will be travelling alone
to Northern Ireland on
22nd January
in order to keep a hospital
appointment and spend time with her mother.
CANADA
Peter Smith
is in
Halifax,
Nova Scotia, for 3-4 weeks of adult
gospel meetings. There were probably about
50 unsaved present for the opening meeting
this past weekend.
REPUBLIC OF
IRELAND
Andrew
Shanks was encouraged that two ladies
attended ‘Christianity
Explored’ last Monday. These two have
been to other meetings before but not on a
regular basis. Please
pray
that they will continue to go along
regularly, and
pray,
too, that others who have promised to attend
will do so.
