Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 18 - 05 - 09

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  The prayer requests listed here are, as far as is sensibly practical, for activities that are happening on the particular week. A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

The Assembly also publishes a monthly Missionary Prayer Newsletter, for prayer requests on a longer time-scale, but this is not currently available on the web site.

 REPUBLIC OF S. AFRICA

Terry and Jane Gilpin  (Murchison) would value prayer for a two-week series of outreach meetings which is being planned by the English-speaking assembly. They will take place in a nearby township where the level of crime, drunkenness and spiritual darkness is high. Please pray for the believers, that they will see blessing as they bring the light of God’s Word to this area.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO

Mary Ratter (Katoka) reports that 18 people were baptised over the weekend, including Jonathan Sisterson, who is a short-term helper at Katoka. Please pray that all these believers will be blessed in their future walk with the Lord.

JAPAN

Ken and Christine Cowell (Kushiro) were encouraged to see one of the choir members, Miss Baba, baptised on Sunday. Three other choir members are also considering being baptised. Please pray that the Lord will continue to work among the choir members. Next Sunday, 24th May, will be Ken and Christine’s last Sunday with the believers. Pray for them as they leave the friends they have known for many years and prepare to return to the UK. Pray also for Hiro, their full-time worker, who has taken over giving the messages at the choir practices.

FRANCE

Alison Packer (Laval) has recently returned home after having treatment in Paris. An abscess was discovered, which was drained, and she was given intravenous antibiotics. She reports that she is now feeling much better and can concentrate on putting on weight.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

Andrew and Gillian Shanks (NewcastleWest) ask for prayer for their ‘Ultimate Decision’ outreach, which is starting with a stand at the local agricultural show. Pray for good weather and opportunities to talk to people and pass out literature. Pray also for a team of eight people from the USA and Canada who are coming out to help with evangelism from 22nd May till 1st June. They will be involved in door-to-door work, children’s meetings, street preaching and manning the bookstall.

Please continue to remember Noel McMeekin (Cootehill, Drum) as he distributes 20,000 tracts this month, round the towns and villages of Co. Cavan and Co. Monaghan. He asks us to pray for receptive hearts.

ITALY

Paul and Nesta Volle (Motespertoli) mention that the church is holding a special outreach to coincide with the annual Wine-Tasting Festival in Montespertoli, which this year is being held from 24th to 31st May. They will have displays and book tables inside the church hall to encourage people to come in. Please pray for their testimony during this time.

VARIOUS AREAS

Mike and Ros Buckley will be taking a tour from 18th to 31st May to visit six small assemblies in the east of the country where they serve. Pray for them as they travel and seek to encourage and support the believers.

Peter and Sandra Brind will be flying out to the Bahamas on 18th May for a further 10-week mission trip. Pray for them as they seek to encourage the Christians and help with Bible teaching on three of the islands.

LOCAL

"Coffee & Chat" each Wednesday morning at 10:30 am.

Tony Harvey (Whitley Bay) is responsible for the Gospel Service on Sunday at 6:30 pm.
