Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 16-06-08

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO

Mary Ratter (ex Whitley Bay) and other Katoka folk inform us that next weekend a baptismal service is planned at Katoka, and 14 young people who have been attending classes will be baptised. Please pray that it will be a happy and challenging day for all concerned.

TANZANIA

John Hanley (from Auchlochan House) is spending four weeks in East Africa from 16th June-16th July, travelling from Burundi to eastern Congo where some Christian refugees have resettled, and then to Tanzania to revisit Congolese refugee camps. Much of the time he will be with Harry Johnson and his son, who work in East Africa. The days will be filled with preaching and Bible teaching, as well as distributing funds to relieve the extreme poverty of these refugees. Please pray for health, strength and protection. The political situation is still unstable.

Please also remember the GLO teams in Tanzania (Moshi/Dar-es-Salaam, 13th-28th June).

JAPAN

David and Esther Dexter (Miyazaki) are grateful to those who prayed for the special meetings with the visiting speaker over the past weekend. The Bible teaching time for believers on Saturday went well, in spite of heavy rains. On Sunday, five visitors came for the first time, plus an extra child. Pray that God will continue to speak to them through the clear, simple message that was preached.

EASTERN EUROPE

Please pray for Martin and Margaret Baker as they visit believers in Serbia from 19th June-2nd July. As usual, Martin will be giving ministry from the Word of God.

FRANCE

Please continue to pray for Alison Packer (Laval), who has had an MRI scan to ascertain the cause of an E. coli infection. She has an appointment to see a specialist in Rennes on 1st July. Please pray that a solution to the problem may be found and that any corrective treatment will be totally effective.

SPAIN

Ken and Alison Barrett (Madrid) ask for continued prayer for the city centre outreach on Thursday nights, which Ken helps to lead. Many of the team members are recent contacts from this preaching and need to grow in grace, coherence and knowledge of the Lord. Pray for wisdom in these times of interaction both with the team and with new, interested contacts.

Please continue to remember Kath Wickham in your prayers. She is still in Intensive Care, on mechanical ventilation and with some renal dysfunction which is causing breathing problems. Doctors will be making a decision as to whether she should have further surgery or not. Pray that this will not be necessary, as she is very weak. Please also remember Terry during this anxious time.

 GLO TEAMS

Please remember the GLO teams in France (Quimper, 18th-30th June) and Romania (Talmaciu, 19th-29th June). Pray for safety of travel and good health for team members, as well as for good working relationships. Pray, too, for God’s blessing on the various outreach activities taking place.

LOCAL

Informal Coffee Morning each Wednesday, at 10:30 am. It has been good to develop a small number of regulars, but please pray that additional people might start to come along.

The summer “Open Air” season begins this Sunday, 22nd June at 5:30 pm, outside Larkswood Rd. Community Centre, Redcar, and is planned to continue into September. Please support in person as you are able, and in prayer.

Paul Jackson (Harrogate) is responsible for the preaching of the Gospel on the 22nd.
