Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 15 - 12 - 08

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

MOZAMBIQUE

Please pray for the five-day holiday club for orphans being run by Patrick and Grace Mulenga  from 15th-19th December. Pray for those who will teach and counsel, for the times of singing and worship, for safety as the children are involved in games and activities, and that the Lord will speak to each child.

REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA

Paul and Dorothy Grieve (Murchison) (left) are holding a Christmas tea at the Flower Foundation, an elderly people’s complex, on 18th December. Please pray for a good number of people to attend and that they will be receptive to the gospel message.

TANZANIA

Ron and Maria Cunningham (Moshi) (right) would value prayer for five days of gospel meetings with the Bethel assembly in Moshi town from 17th-21st December. Each afternoon, a team will be going around the area with loudspeakers to invite folk along, and other members will be taking invitations door-to-door.

ZIMBABWE

Please pray for the situation in Zimbabwe. Echoes have contacts in the country who are able to get relief to those in particular distress and have sent funds for immediate needs.

JAPAN

Noel Hamilton (Koshigaya) requests prayer for a Carols by Candlelight service being held on 21st December and for the Christmas Eve candlelight service. Please pray for folk to go along and to be responsive to the gospel message.

Ken and Christine Cowell (Kushiro) have a family Christmas meeting coming up on 21st December, which will include a baptism. One of those to be baptised is Mrs Kusakari, who is in her late 70s. She has been attending the meeting for several years but has resisted trusting the Lord until recently. Give thanks that she made the decision to follow the Lord and be baptised. Also, at 3 pm on that day, the English Christmas outreach will be held, which will be followed at 5 pm by the young people’s Christmas meeting. It is expected that several non-believers will be attending these meetings, so please pray that the Lord will speak to hearts.

David and Esther Dexter (Miyazaki) (left) request prayer for a Christmas event being held on 21st December, which will include a meal. The plan is to tell the Christmas story in six parts, using a variety of means. Please pray that this will be effective and leave the listeners with a challenge as to their response to the Lord Jesus.

BRAZIL

The children with whom Jeff and Denise Watson (Foz do Iguacu) work are putting on a Christmas play on 21st December. This will be followed by the baptism of a couple, Ari and Marli, and 13 year-old Marleine, whose mother is in fellowship. Please pray for these events, and pray, too, that Marleine’s father Mario will attend and be touched by the Lord.

FRANCE

The next item on David and Brigitte Sutherland’s (Arras) agenda is the Christmas family outreach at 3 pm on 21st December. They are expecting a good crowd, as up to 150 people usually attend. Please pray that all that is said and done will be blessed by the Lord.

Chris and Michelle Hall request prayer for a bilingual

Christmas carol concert being held on 20th December in Chateau-Gontier. Please pray for the singing group SOLA who are performing, for a good number to attend and that folk will respond to the Christmas message.

Malcolm and Hannah Coombes request prayer for the Orange assembly, in France, as they hold a special week of outreach in the town each afternoon from 18th-24th December. During the week, in the streets, the assembly members will be singing carols, preaching the gospel, distributing tracts and offering gospel calendars. On 20th December, a gospel concert is being held in a large concert hall in the town centre. Shopkeepers have willingly displayed adverts for the concert and have also asked the assembly members to sing carols in the afternoon of 21st December. Please pray that the believers will be encouraged by a positive response to their efforts and that the Lord will touch hearts as people in Orange listen to the Christmas message.

Mike and Alison Packer (Laval) request prayer for the Laval church outreach being held on 21st December. There will be a varied programme with the children participating, puppets, songs and a short message. Please pray for any unsaved present, that the Lord will touch their hearts and that they will make a positive response to Him. In addition, give thanks that Mike has now fully recovered from the hepatitis which put him out of action for three months during the summer. Give thanks, too, that scans Alison has had show no traces of cancer elsewhere, but continue to pray that a solution will be found to the repeated infections she is still suffering and that she will have some relief from the pain she is in.

Please remember Margaret Ollivier (Quimper Region), who is due to go to Paris on 18th December to undergo surgery on her unborn baby. Please pray for Margaret as she has the operation, for Yannick as he supports her, and for successful surgery.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

In preparation for an outreach being held in January, Andrew and Gillian Shanks have placed an advert on a billboard in Newcastle West which will be displayed for two weeks. This will inform people about the outreach and also includes contact details. Please pray for this, as it is estimated that over 10,000 vehicles pass the sign each day and many people will also be walking by. Please pray that it may be used to the glory of the Lord.

LOCAL

Andrew Lumsden is responsible for leading our Carol Service this Sunday at 6:30 pm. It is planned to include 6 Carols and 6 Lessons read by different men-folk. Andrew would appreciate much supporting prayer.

The mid-week meeting for the next 2 weeks is to be held on the Monday evening at 7:30 pm and will be for prayer and open ministry.

Coffee & Chat next Wednesday at 10:30 am as usual.
