Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 13th November, 2006

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.

SRI LANKA

Urgent prayer is requested for this country. The situation on the East Coast has deteriorated and violence has escalated since the beginning of November. In the last week, the area between Verugal and Valaichenai has been the worst affected area in the country, and hundreds of civilians have been killed. Even the refugee camps have been targeted by the artillery and fighter jets. Please pray for the many displaced believers, and those who are seeking to care for them. Some have lost loved ones in the fighting. Pray also about the health situation. Many believers had to be hospitalised due to an outbreak of fever last month. Praise God that the Valaichenai assembly premises has provided a safe haven, as many who were sheltering in other places have lost their lives.

BOLIVIA

Mario and Helen Ponce report that the situation in Bolivia is critical following the recent change of government. There are road-blocks and strikes almost every day, and it is expected that things will get worse. The government has taken over all the mines, and an elder in the assembly who works as a mine manager has not been allowed to leave his post. The mine is surrounded by the army. Please pray for this man’s safety. Pray also for the new President, some of whose relatives are believers.

BRAZIL

At the beginning of October, urgent prayer was requested for Najet, who was having serious health problems in the eighth month of her pregnancy. Jeff and Denise Watson advise that the doctor was surprised to find the problem had disappeared when Najet went for a check-up. Give thanks for this answer to prayer, and for the Lord’s goodness in the safe delivery of a baby girl.

EASTERN EUROPE

Martin Baker is currently in northern Serbia for ministry meetings, returning on 18th November. Please pray that he will enjoy safety of travel and enjoy good fellowship with the believers in that area.

ETHNIC MINORITIES

John and Ruth Hanley will be visiting an assembly of Hmong Christians, located near Avignon, on Sunday 19th. They are from a mountain tribe in Laos and came to France as refugees some years ago. John has been asked to speak on “The Church under Persecution”, and would value prayer.

LOCAL

Urgent and continual prayer is needed for security at the new premises in Edenhall Grove. Having had materials stolen for putting on a bonfire 10 days ago, windows were smashed on Monday evening.

At the moment the gas supply to the building is not planned to be connected until the 12th January. This is obviously not satisfactory. Please pray that this date will be brought forward.

The Gospel Service this week is planned to be taken by Tom Turton.  Please pray that there may be an acceptance of God’s Word.

There is a Seed Sower’s day at Wylam this Saturday, 18th Nov.

Door-to-door work continues this Sunday pm in Fulmerton Crescent.
