Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 07 - 07 - 08

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA

Paul and Dorothy Grieve (Murchison) ask for prayer as they visit Botswana later this month. They have been invited to give ministry at a conference in Gaborone. Please pray for safety as they travel on dangerous roads and for a time of blessing with the believers there.

ZAMBIA

Eric McCaughren (Kitwe) would value prayer on 12th and 13th July, when he will be speaking for the first time at a conference of Bemba-speaking assemblies in Chingola. Pray for wisdom for Eric in responding to the many invitations he receives to speak at conferences, some of which are a long way from the Copperbelt.

 INDIA

Ron Penny requests prayer for George Dawson, a full-time worker commended from Bangalore and based in Delhi, who will be ministering the Word of God to over 40 full-time evangelists on 17th and 18th July. These evangelists are working in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh – three of the most needy states in North India. Please pray that they will be encouraged and challenged by the conference.

Brother Ramalingham since his return from India a couple of months ago, he has not been getting any sleep. Apparently, he was given some wrong medication for his sore throat and cough while he was in India. He has also lost an abnormal amount of weight during this period. His only complaint is that he cannot concentrate and pray long enough. His wife Saroja and their son Peter Simon are with him and taking good care of him. Saroja has been taking treatments for cancer for a long time.

Angie Dodds (Hebron School, Ootacamund) would value prayer as she visits her parents, who are both unwell. Neither of them are believers, so pray that she will have opportunity and boldness to speak to them about spiritual matters during the short time she is in the UK, from 10th to 20th July.

BRAZIL

Jeff & Denise Watson (Foz do Iguaçu)  ask prayer for their Holiday Bible School between 15th-18th July. The theme will be "Flying High with Jesus", making kites, planes, and hot air balloons, along with scripture teaching, verses, and chorus singing. The Head of a local school has authorised the distribution of invites. Do pray that a good number of children will attend, and that the messages taught will sink deep into their hearts.

CANADA

Peter Smith started Tent Meetings last Sunday, 6th July in his home town of Portage. Local full-time workers, Jim Webb and Andrew Bergsma will be alternating nightly in sharing the adult meetings with Peter. Please pray:

· For freshness of thought and power from on high, in the daily preaching preparation and responsibility of speaking.

· For help in door-to-door visitation and for God's blessing upon the VIA Magazines to be left.

· For security for the tent site (Peter is staying in a trailer) day and night and for safety throughout the meetings. (Kids and cars/busy road don't mix!)

· For a good response from the neighbourhood to the 'Community Barbecue' on Saturday at noon, D.V.

· For guidance in preparing for the start of the 'Camp Treasure Seekers' morning children's outreach on Monday July 14th, (D.V.)

· For the children of the Lord's people, from local assemblies, to be blessed at this time.

MEXICO

Eglon and Judith Harris inform that their daughter-in-law Grissel went to be with the Lord on 2nd July. Please remember all the family in your prayers at this time, especially David and the children, Edwin, Kevin and Jessica.

BAHAMAS

Please continue to pray that God will show Mark & Carol Lacey who He wants to take up the position of Night Manager and Workshop Manager at the New Haven.

ALBANIA

Marijan Nijhof - The Hiding Place. There has been a big inspection from the government, for our licence, which lasted 4 hours! Everything you could imagine was checked – every little document had to be in place. Praise the Lord! They were satisfied and impressed by what they saw the Lord is doing here in the house. We asked if we could get a licence for the maximum time, 3 years. They would see what they could do. Their only hesitation: finances.

We cannot provide a list of who and how much will be given each month. We gave a statement showing how many churches, organisations and individuals are helping us, but we never know in advance how much money will be donated monthly. For the last 10 years God has always provided enough.

FRANCE

Graham Black (Marseille) were most encouraged recently by two letters that they received. One was from a man who was about to become a Jehovah's Witness but through their correspondence courses became a Christian and is now rejoicing in the Lord.
Another man was about to give up and in fact was a back-slider, but through listening to their of our radio programmes gave himself again to the Lord, and has found his way again spiritually.

For the next 2 weeks they have a visit from a GLO Team. Graham will be responsible for the Bible teaching going through the book and the life of Joshua - 9 or 10 studies with discussion questions following a time of teaching on the given passage. Thank you for your support in prayer.  Please remember too the Gospels of John that will be distributed into many thousands of homes during the next two weeks.

Please pray for the GLO team in France (Laval/Mayenne) which runs from 13th-22nd July. Pray for safety of travel and good health for team members, as well as for good working relationships. Pray, too, for God’s blessing on the various outreach activities taking place.

GREENLAND

Hans and Jonna Sivertsen (Nuuk) are with their second camp which started on 6th July, with 25 children aged 12 and 13. The second of three trips of wilderness camping was held on 8th July, with between 8 and 10 young people aged 14-17. Please pray for the leaders and that the children will have fun, be kept safe and learn to trust the Saviour.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

Noel and Liza McMeekin (Cootehill) are involved with the Postal Bible School camp from 12th July and would appreciate our prayers that this week away will go well.

Colin and Rosemary Sheldon (Dublin) will be in Newcastle, Co. Down, from 12th-26th July, helping with the Northfield Bible Week. They have been asked to lead the children’s meetings each day in two local caravan parks, and Colin will give the messages using the sketch-board. Please pray for the children who attend and for the parents who sometimes sit in on these meetings. Pray also for the team who will be assisting and for the main tent meetings.

ITALY

Giuseppe and Rachel Palermo  (Milan) report that for the first two weeks of July an American team is helping them with evangelism. In the mornings they will be going to local markets to hand out tracts and talk to people, then in the afternoons they will do summer clubs and conduct children’s programmes in the local parks. Please pray for the Lord’s blessing on this outreach.

Paul and Nesta Volle (Montespertoli) request prayer for those who showed interest during the GLO team outreach and for the contacts made. Pray, too, for those to be responsible for the assembly at La Scala and for continuing growth.

SPAIN

Pray that Ken Barrett’s (Madrid) voice will recover from his recent heavy schedule of speaking, and that the pain from the sciatica in his leg will ease as the evangelistic activities lessen.

Kath Wickham (Valencia) - No update has been given concerning her condition

LOCAL
