Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 07-01-2008

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

KENYA

John and Yokey Roberts (Nairobi) advise that Kenya has been in turmoil following the announcement that President Kibaki has been re-elected for a further term of five years. Please pray for a return to normality. Violence, looting and loss of life have already been reported, especially in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu. Prayer is requested for believers who are caught up in these developments.

MALAWI

Stephen and Gail Harper (Thondwe) ask us to pray for Margaret, recently widowed, who has been diagnosed with cancer. She is a keen listener to the Word of God but is not always able to get to the meetings, although it is evident she makes every effort. Pray for her physical and spiritual blessing. Pray, too, for guidance for Stephen and Gail as they try to ascertain the best way to start a work in some of the local schools. Pray that they will have a favourable reception from headmasters.

JAPAN

Ken Cowell (Kushiro) was planned to go into St George’s Hospital, London, last Monday for heart surgery yesterday afternoon. Please pray for a successful operation and good recovery. Pray, too, for Christine.

FRANCE

Mike Packer (Laval) has sent an update on his wife Alison. After three operations, she is completely drained of energy and feeling quite demoralised. Please pray that she will soon regain strength. Scan results show that the swelling from the surgery is decreasing. On 2nd January she was transferred to another hospital which specialises in stomach problems and nutrition.

Please remember also Hélène Tatford, who is facing two cataract operations at the end of January, and also one for glaucoma. Praise God that the specialist surgeon waived an expensive fee on learning that Briand and Hélène were missionaries. This was a real answer to prayer.

SPAIN

Ken and Alison Barrett (Madrid) request prayer as they prepare and travel to Peru this month. Included in their luggage will be children’s medicines for the Rainbow Project, books and other material for various workers. Please pray that they will be able to pass through Customs without hindrance or delay.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

Noel and Liza McMeekin advise that during December they distributed gospel literature to almost 20,000 homes. So far, eight people have requested further information. Please pray for all those who received the literature and for those who are being followed up.  Prayer is also requested for Liza’s mother, who fell recently and broke her hip. She has to learn how to walk again, but is struggling to understand what is happening to her as she has Alzheimer’s disease.

ROMANIA

Tim and Jenny Gooding (Cluj) have been in Sighet (northern Romania) over the last weekend, and moved on to the Ukraine on 7th January to stay with a Romanian Christian family to spend Ukranian Christmas Day with them. Tim spoke on a number of occasions over last weekend, so please pray that God’s Word will challenge and bless those who attended the meetings.

TURKEY

A reminder that the next hearing in the murder trial is scheduled for 14th January. Please remember the team of lawyers who are representing the believers, and pray that justice will be done. Pray, too, for the believers who are now in the limelight because they have had the courage to make a stand, and that the gospel will be spread as a result of these tragic events.

LOCAL

Jonathan Gibson (Harrogate) is planned to be with us next Sunday evening for the preaching of the Gospel.

Next Wednesday, 16th January, sees the start of “Coffee & Chat”,10:30 am to 12:00 pm, a way of encouraging local people to visit the Hall in an informal, relaxed way. It is a trial arrangement for 3 months. All of course are very welcome. Please pray that if it is the Lord's will, this informal time together will be used by Him for the extension of His kingdom.
