Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 06 - 04 - 09

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  The prayer requests listed here are, as far as is sensibly practical, for activities that are happening on the particular week. A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

The Assembly also publishes a monthly Missionary Prayer Newsletter, for prayer requests on a longer time-scale, but this is not currently available on the web site.

DEM. REP. OF CONGO

Mary Ratter (Katoka) is planned to return to the Congo on 12th April with Jonathan Sisterson, who is going to Katoka for four months.

RWANDA

Peter Andrews (Kigali) reminds us that Tuesday this week sees the 15th anniversary of the start of the genocide, when many people will be remembering what happened all those years ago in the country. For the next week everything will be done with these events in mind. He says that from the dark days has come a real awakening of spiritual need and churches are experiencing tremendous growth.

ZAMBIA

Please pray for new workers Andrew and Amanda Kirk as they prepare to leave the UK on 13th April and travel to Zambia, where they will be teaching at Amano Christian School. Pray that they will quickly settle into their roles and new routine. Their two sons, Samuel and Joseph, will also be attending the school, so pray that they will make new friends and enjoy this adventure.

INDIA

V. Paul Raju (Bethesda Leprosy Hospital) requests prayer for their matron, Varalaxmi, who is currently awaiting surgery at the cancer hospital in Hyderabad. Give thanks that Keertana, daughter of one of Bethesda’s schoolteachers, has returned home much improved after four months of radiotherapy.

JAPAN

Ken and Christine Cowell (Kushiro) have a special outreach on Easter Sunday, incorporating different singing groups. Ken will be giving the message and prayer is requested that many non-Christians will attend and that the Lord will speak to their hearts.

ARGENTINA

Dick and Irene Robertson (Oran) ask for prayer over the Easter weekend, when special gospel meetings will be held with a visiting speaker who is a national missionary. On Thursday eight teenagers will be baptised, including two members of the Robertsons’ own family. On Friday there is a youth retreat, followed by a gospel service in the evening. Meetings continue on Saturday and Sunday, both in Oran and in another town where a new Sunday school was started last year. Prayer is also requested for thousands of people in Oran who are suffering with Dengue fever. The epidemic is getting out of control and fumigation takes place daily to try and get rid of the mosquitoes. Please pray for a solution to this problem.

BRAZIL

Jeff and Denise Watson (Foz) report that Agueda is to be baptised on Easter Sunday at the end of their annual conference. Please pray that she will continue to trust the Lord for her needs. Pray that there may be some present who do not know the Saviour, and that the messages will speak to all who attend, whether they are believers or not.

PANAMA

Clive and Hazel Walker (Santiago) request prayer for Sandalio Bordonez, who fell head first out of a palm tree last Monday. Years ago Sandalio was active in the San Soledad church, but in recent years he has been living for himself. Please pray that he will see how close he was to death and that he will put the Lord first in his life.

ALBANIA

Enris Nase (Tirana) is visiting 2 towns in the SE Albania this week in order to distribute shoebox gifts to children and tell them about God’s Easter gift. Next week he will do the same in Kosovo. Pray for safety on the roads and for spiritual wisdom as he shares the gospel with the children.

EASTERN EUROPE

Martin and Margaret Baker are planning to visit Bratislava, Slovakia, over the Easter period for the assembly conference. Please pray for them as they travel and that their time of fellowship and sharing will be blessed by the Lord.

FRANCE

Please remember to pray for Briand Tatford, who will be in Benin this week. His plans include visiting the Eau Vive Bible Training base, speaking at the Easter Conference in Porto Novo, and attending a retreat for church leaders and elders. Pray that he will be given strength to cope with the sub-Saharan humidity and heat. Another believer will accompany him and give lectures to the team running the Eau Vive dispensary in Cotonou.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

Please pray for Noel McMeekin who will be distributing tracts door-to-door to every home in Cootehill on Easter Friday and Saturday.

Andrew and Gillian Shanks (Newcastle West) are running an Easter Holiday Bible Club for children from Monday to Friday this week. Please pray that many local children will attend and that some will be allowed to start attending the regular weekly children’s meeting.

ITALY

Adino and Eleanor Ricossa ask us to pray for those who have suffered in the recent earthquake which has destroyed many homes and buildings in central Italy.

LOCAL

"Coffee & Chat" each Wednesday morning at 10:30 am.

Please pray for the Good Friday service at 11:00am to be take by Andrew Lumsden, and the Easter Sunday Gospel service at 6:30 pm to be taken by David Cartwright.
