Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 03-12-2007

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

ANGOLA

Ruth Hadley (Saurimo) asks us to keep praying for wisdom in handling major witchcraft problems that are arising in some Assemblies in Angola. Some believers  have quickly turned to witchcraft or divining in the face of illness. Those put out of fellowship have accused the elders of bewitching them.  There seems to be a tremendous resurgence of witchcraft in Angola so please pray. Pray that the elders will be given much wisdom as well as courage.

She also asks that prayer be made:

1) That the Lord would call some nurses and doctors to make medical help more available.

2) For people who work in the Emmaus office marking courses, and for those involved in the discipleship courses that they would not lose heart but continue to serve the Lord in this way.

3. For a new headmaster for the school work - somebody who is faithful and loves the Lord.

TANZANIA

Maria Cunningham (Moshi) has been very poorly over the past few weeks and for four days could take only liquids. There was a clash of treatment which slowed her progress in recovery to almost zero, and she suffered soaring temperatures. A second opinion was called for, her medication was changed and after a week she is feeling much better. Now she has to concentrate on building up her energy levels. Please pray for further improvement in her condition to full recovery.

JAPAN

Ken and Christine Cowell (Kushiro) ask for prayer for a special Christmas meeting at the local prison on 8th December. The gospel choir will be singing and there will be a Christmas message. Usually, about 100 of the prisoners attend. Also, please pray that Mr Suzuki will be well enough to be baptised on 16th December. He is in hospital at the moment and his heart is rather weak. He really wants to be baptised at the church in front of everyone.

David and Esther Dexter (Miyazaki) would appreciate prayer for their Christmas meeting in the prison on the morning of 8th December, and for the International Christmas event in the evening. Pray also for their own Christmas celebration on 16th December and a visit to Fukuoka on 23rd.

FRANCE

Alan & Valerie Kyle (Dunkerque) would appreciate prayer for the annual ladies’ Christmas outreach evening, which will take place on 7th December at Petite Synthe. It is one of the major outreach events in the assembly’s programme, and last year over 30 non-Christian ladies were present. Please pray for the speaker and for the individual conversations that will take place. The main church outreach event is planned for 16th December.

Please continue to pray for Alison Packer, who is still far from well following her operation. Pray particularly for the concern of weight loss, sickness and tiredness, and that the Lord will sustain her in her every need.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

Andrew and Lorna Burt (Enniscorthy) will be holding a Christmas Family Fun Night on 8th December, as part of their Christmas outreach. Pray that a good number will attend and be touched by the message given. Pray, too, for five people who are currently taking an Alpha follow-up course. Two of the five are coming to church regularly.

ITALY

Paul and Nesta Volle (Montespertoli) have been given permission to have a small literature table and to offer gospel calendars in the market in Tavernelle on 6th, 13th and 20th December. They will also be at the market in Montespertoli on 4th, 11th and 18th December. Please pray that they will be able to share more with those who have taken calendars on previous occasions.

PORTUGAL

Colin and Grace Lovell are happy to report that their baby grandson Gabriel has been allowed home from hospital, as the bleeding has stopped. However, prayer is requested that the blood in his head will not clot, but be absorbed naturally by the body. Give thanks that he is feeding well and putting on weight.

LOCAL

David Cartwright is the planned speaker at Redcar this coming Sunday evening at 6:30 pm.
