Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 03-08-09

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  The prayer requests listed here are, as far as is sensibly practical, for activities that are happening on the particular week. A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

The Assembly also publishes a monthly Missionary Prayer Newsletter, for prayer requests on a longer time-scale, but this is not currently available on the web site.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO

Paul and Angela Hannay (Shrewsbury) are currently helping with the work at Katoka. On 5th August they will be travelling with Mary Ratter to Kasaji, as Mary is due to speak at the women’s conference there. Angela has also been asked to take a couple of sessions, while Paul will help with some jobs that need to be done. Please pray for Mary and Angela as they speak to the ladies, and for Paul as he does practical work at the hospital.

ZAMBIA

John Symons (Mkushi) is involved with several conferences this month. First he will attend the Pan-African Brethren conference in Kabwe, and then he will be the main speaker at two conferences in the Northern Province. He may also have to speak at a third conference, but this is yet to be confirmed. Pray for him as he prepares the messages and delivers them.

Jean-Luc and Rita Hainaut (Eliya) (left) are still in Belgium sorting out Rita’s father’s affairs. They planned to stay only one month but their tickets are valid for two. Pray that they will not have to postpone their return, as the work in Zambia is suffering. A youth camp and conference have had to be cancelled, as well as Jean-Luc’s teaching sessions at Kashikishi Bible School. Also, the building work is at a halt.

 JAPAN

David and Esther Dexter (Miyazaki) would appreciate prayer for the daughter of an elder in the Fukuoka assembly, who has been seriously ill since May due to the herpes virus affecting her brain. Pray also for an elder’s wife from the Osaka area, who has just discovered she has cancer at an advanced stage. The couple have three teenage children. David is due to visit the prison again on 11th August. He has requested permission to use Bible courses with the inmates, and is awaiting the response. Pray that it will be positive.

FRANCE

David and Brigitte Sutherland (Arras) will be involved in leading a family camp in Brittany from 7th to 22nd August. They are expecting 200 people to attend, so it will be hard work. Please pray for the Lord will bless this time.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

Colin and Rosemary Sheldon (Dublin) have just returned from two weeks in Newcastle, Co. Down, where they were responsible for a children’s outreach as part of a tent campaign. Praise God that Colin was able to lead three children from one family to the Lord, and a teenager also professed faith at one of the children’s meetings.

OTHER OVERSEAS SERVICE

Boyd Aitken has recently had an MRI scan and faces surgery on 12th August. Please pray for him and Blanche.

FINALLY

Please pray for the GLO teams working in Coleraine, Northern Ireland, from 8th to 17th August and in Limerick, Republic of Ireland, from 8th to 15th August. Pray that the team members will be kept in good health, work well together and be effective in their witness.

Ian Burness and John Aitken (Echoes Directors) are visiting Africa this month, staying first in the Democratic Republic of Congo and then moving on to Zambia to attend the Pan-African Brethren Conference on Missions. Pray that they will be kept safe and in good health, and that the time spent with missionaries and other workers will be beneficial.
