Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 03-03-08

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  A list of previous weekly Missionary Prayer requests can be found here.

MALAWI

Stephen and Gail Harper (Thondwe) recently contacted a couple of local schools to seek permission to distribute Gospels and New Testaments to the pupils. So far, the headmasters concerned have been receptive to this idea, so they hope to begin distributing these materials very soon. Pray that the Lord will bless His Word and that there will be lasting fruit.

David and Grace Croudace (Zambezi, Zambia) will be making another trip to Malawi this month. Please pray for safety of travel and that their visit will be a blessing and encouragement to those they meet.

RWANDA

Peter Andrews (Kigali) is currently visiting Rwanda until 10th April. The work is expanding and they hope to open a children’s orthopaedic hospital this month, as well as a new secondary school. New departments will also be opened in the Skills Training Centre. Please pray for Peter during this time and remember also Jenny who remains in the UK.

ARGENTINA

Pablo (age 17) and Roberto (age 15) Jack (sons of Bobby Jack) are to be baptised this Saturday, 8th March. Please pray for them as they take this step and also for those who attend.

BRAZIL

Jeff and Denise Watson (Foz) ask for prayer for Jeff’s son Jonathan and for the Lord’s work in Recife. Last Sunday night after the meeting, he and other members of the assembly there were held up at gunpoint. Praise God that no one was hurt, but they have all been badly shaken by the experience.

(see extracts of letter received 4/3/08 for additional information for prayer).

MEXICO

On 8th March Eglon Harris (Orizaba) is giving a conference on ‘Music and the Bible’ in an assembly in the city of Puebla. Please pray for the Lord’s help for Eglon and that this time of fellowship together will bring glory to the Lord.

Pamela Jewitt (Mexico City) requests prayer for Cecilia, founder of the children’s homes where Pamela works, who has just been diagnosed with a huge stomach tumour. Surgery was planned for 4th March.

FRANCE

David and Brigitte Sutherland (Arras) request prayer for Bernard and Florence who are to be baptised on 9th March. Pray that this will be a time of blessing and witness as this couple publicly proclaim their faith. It is especially difficult for them as Florence’s father is very ill at this time, and they fear he may not even live to see the baptism.

Jonathan and Amanda Hanley (Cavaillon) ask for prayer for the annual Bible retreat for people living with AIDS and HIV, which takes place on 8th and 9th March. This is a good opportunity for talking through deeper issues.

Please continue to remember Ian Newberry (Pierrelatte) as he prepares and takes prayer seminars in Strasbourg on 8th and 9th March, followed by Valence on 15th and 16th March.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

Noel and Liza McMeekin continue their Postal Bible School prize givings this week in Swords, Dublin, Abbeyleix, Templemore, Rathdowney, Tullow and Holywood. Many venues and much travelling, so please pray for safety on the roads.

Andrew and Lorna Burt request prayer for the changes taking place in the Enniscorthy church as John and Linda Stanfield move to Limerick. A Hungarian family and three German ladies are among the number of new people who have started attending the church. Pray for a continuation of numerical and spiritual growth.

SPAIN

Jesus and Helen Ortiz have a camp coming up in a couple of weeks. Please pray that the Lord will help them during this busy time. They have invited some unsaved friends and are hoping they will come along and want to know more about the Lord as a result.

LOCAL

The Coffee Morning continues each Wednesday at 10:30 am. Please continue to pray that God will use these occasions as part of the path that leads to Him.

Tony Harvey (Whitley Bay) is the planned speaker for next Sunday at 6:30 pm. Do continue to pray for those who join us who are as yet strangers to His saving grace.
