GOOD
NEWS!
In
our house we must watch the news on TV at least 3 times per day, and
sometimes more. On top of that we usually go and get a daily
newspaper, and we often get further information from the internet. I
don’t think we are much different than lots of folk. If we didn’t
get the paper, would we miss it and feel unsettled? I think the
honest answer is “yes”, because we like the crossword. So we have all this “news” coming to us from
different sources
But if you were to ask me
can I tell you any news from a week last Tuesday, I would probably
be struggling. There could well have been (in early January 2017) a lot of
news about the fighting in Syria and Iraq, the terrible weather in
much of Europe, scandal with regards to the USA President Elect
Donald Trump, and of course preparations for the UK to leave Europe 2015. There would be some comment on the economy, the control
of immigration, etc., but I wouldn't
remember the detail. But suppose the same question was asked for me
to recollect some news from a month ago, how would I get on then? –
Probably not very well, and most of my answers would be a big guess.
If the news is so important to us, why is it we forget it so soon?
The answer is that it is
replaced by other news, and that probably
we are only interested in what has happened that could directly
affect us. Many items fail to command our attention as they simply
“leave us cold”. No matter how hard those employed try to get the
news across, we don’t take much notice if we are not interested.
There
is some news, however, that hasn’t changed down the centuries. It is contained
in just one news story and it affects everybody alive on this
planet. It is “GOD’S STORY” or gospel and it is definitely
good news. This news is so important that it is being broadcast in
various way by many different people yet the message is always the
same – God sent His one and only Son down into our world to die for
us so that we can be saved from an eternal hell and come into
everlasting life. “For God so loved the
world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall
not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
For the good news to take
effect, we must believe that the Lord Jesus died on a cross
for you and me. He sacrificed His life so that we can come into
eternal life. When Jesus died, His Father, God, raised Him from the
dead. He is now in heaven and it is His desire we believe in Him and
His sacrifice on the cross for our sins, that we may be with Him for
ever. His love for us knows no limit.
We pray that this news will
not “leave you cold” or that you will forget it. On the contrary, we
ask you to respond to this news with all your heart and come into a
living relationship with the Saviour, who loved you so much that He
died for you. We can do that if we truly come to Him and say, “Lord
Jesus I believe You died for me on the cross, and that on the third
day You rose from the dead. Please forgive all my sins. I choose now
to turn away from them and I ask you to come into my heart and life
as my Lord and Saviour”. May the Lord bless you in your response to
this "Good News".
