Too
Hard for the Lord?
Is anything too hard for the LORD?
At
the time appointed I will return unto thee….
(Gen 18:14).
“Is
anything too wonderful
(i.e., impossible)
for
Jehovah? There is no
wonder that God cannot do!
It was a pity that Sarah
laughed, but can you really be too hard on her? If you overheard a
discussion where it was being announced that you were going to give
birth to a child and you were ninety years old, you might laugh
too!! The thing was a joke. After all, how was it possible for her
to have a baby at her age, never mind her husband being one hundred
years old?
She should not have laughed,
but as a result a wonderful verse has been left on the page of
Scripture. “Is
anything too hard for the LORD?”
(Gen
18:14). The
impossible becomes possible when the Lord is at work. If He says it
will happen then there is nothing on earth that can stop it. There
is no mountain too high and no valley too steep for the Lord, no
obstacle which cannot be overcome, or problem that He cannot
resolve. Put quite simply, there is nothing too hard for Him.
This is a tremendous
encouragement for all believers. It ought to bring us to the throne
of grace on a regular basis. Whatever we face, we have a Lord who is
able to bring us through in accordance with His word. There is no
lack of power on His part, no lack of knowledge, and no lack of
wisdom. He has it all and therefore if He says it, we can depend
upon His word that it will come to pass.
The thing which was a
natural impossibility happened because God was there. God chose the
timing. Sometimes we cannot see the way forward or work out just how
God could possibly bring something to pass. What a blessing to leave
it with Him in confidence and trust His word.
We should ask ourselves the
same question, do we really believe that there
is anything on
earth too hard for the Lord?
The job, health, family or any other situation, whatever that may
be, shouldn't we commit it to the Lord? Is it too hard for Him?
This promise can teach us valuable
lessons. First, God asked a question that was actually a statement.
"There is nothing too hard for God".
We have to begin by believing that with all our heart. Then, notice
that God works "at
the time appointed",
which means He works on His time-scale, not ours. Abraham would have
to wait. But the next words are, "I
will" and God’s Word
never fails. We have many promises from God. He will keep them all
"at
the time appointed."
