SOCIAL PEACE

If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all menRom 12:18

This does not mean suffer as much as you can without retaliating! It means "as regards your side", or "inasmuch as it depends on you"  It means the believer doing everything possible, whatever form the opposition might take, to restore harmony. As far as it depends on the believer, peace is sacrosanct.

Adjoining hotel rooms might be connected by doors so that adjacent family members can freely come and go between them, but both will have a lock on their own side, and hence that "free-flow" can be stopped by one or other of the people involved. In life we may seek to live in friendship with another person who will not "unlock his door". We are not responsible for their door but we are for our own; we need to keep it open, and we must ensure that we are not responsible for the breakdown of peace.

And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you'

Eph 4:32
