Names of Christ
The Saviour has many names and titles, but by whichever
name He is called, those who love Him will always sing:
How sweet the Name of Jesus sounds
In a believer's ear! (J. Newton)
It was through His name they found salvation. "Neither is
there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given
among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). To that same sweet name
the saints gather in testimony (Mat 18:20). How sad it would be to gather to a
name other than His! In His name they have learned to pray, just as He said, "Hitherto
have ye asked nothing in My name: ask and ye shall receive, that your joy may be
full....ask in My name (John 16:24-26). And those early disciples
rejoiced "that they were counted worthy to suffer shame
for His name" (Acts 5:41). Truly His name is "a
name which is above every name". The last references to His name in
Holy Scripture are exceedingly precious. "They shall see
His face; and His name shall be in their foreheads" (Rev 22:4). They
shall bear the likeness of Him "whose name is called the
Word of God" (Rev 19:13). He has "a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF
LORDS" (Rev 19:16).
