HUMBLE SERVICE
And whoever of you desires to become first shall be servant (bondman) of all. Mk 10:44 Owen N E Lovall did a good trade selling strawberries and ice cream outside Wimbledon. His sign read, "O.N.E. Love All To Serve". His very name was associated with service, and so should ours be associated with loving service, for it is by this that all will know that we are His. Our Lord Himself is the pre-eminent example. He who was Lord of all became servant of all, that men might be brought to God. He left the glory of the Father's side and came into this world. He became man in order that He might die. We are called to follow in His steps. We cannot share in His atoning or redemptive work, but we can and should follow Him in His life of patient service for the blessing of a needy world. Greatness is evidenced by one's readiness to deny self and to serve others for Christ's sake, who "came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many." (Mar 10:45). Paul wrote though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more (1 Cor 9:19). Paul willingly became a slave that he might gain as many as possible, faithfully proclaiming the gospel.
