Crowned with Thorns

Last Sunday morning we were reminded that the Lord was crowned with a crown of thorns. The soldiers had provided the Lord with three symbols of royalty: a reed for a sceptre in His right hand (Mat 27:28-29), a scarlet robe,  and a crown of thorns.  The soldiers took back the reed and the scarlet robe (Mat 27:30-31), yet left the crown of thorns implanted on His head. Why was that? Since the fall of mankind in Eden, thorns represented the curse of Adam’s sin (Gen. 3:18). Was it then because the thorns symbolized the curse He came to break? Christ’s crown of thorns became symbolic of the curse of our sin and the wrath of God’s judgment

This was our crown—He wore it for us. Some day He’ll be crowned with many crowns. May we crown Him with our worship today.
