Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 05-03- 2007

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.

ANGOLA

Prayer is requested for Alex and Luke Howden, sons of UK missionaries Brian and Debbie Howden and currently in the UK. Luke was taken to hospital on 27th February with suspected meningitis, and is on painkillers for his headache and antibiotics. The following day, Luke’s older brother Alex, who is 16 years old, also developed a headache and by the middle of the night was worse than Luke. He is receiving similar treatment, but in addition has had a lumbar puncture and is on an antibiotic drip. He also had a brain scan, which, thankfully, was clear. Alex is currently in an adult male ward, and Luke in a children’s ward, which is far from ideal, and it is hoped that they will be placed together soon. Both boys are very poorly, so please pray for them, and for Brian and Debbie at this anxious time. Pray specifically for clear results from the lumbar test, relief from the severe headache pain both boys are experiencing, wisdom for the consultants as they determine action to be taken, and strength for Brian and Debbie.

ZAMBIA

Eric McCaughren would appreciate prayer for his monthly studies in Mufilira, giving teaching on the Judgement Seat of Christ and the Great White Throne. The first of these is on 10th March.

JAPAN

Please continue to pray for Christine Cowell, who is still in hospital. Since the operation there has been some bleeding and she also has a temperature. The doctor is fairly confident that the bleeding will stop by itself without any further treatment. Please pray that this will happen and that her temperature will drop to normal, so that she can come home. The good news is that she does not need any more treatment for the cancer.

NEW CALEDONIA

Stephen and Janice Schooling advise that their Bible School started up again on 5th March. The topics for this term are Revival, and the development of the Christian family as a place of ministry. Pray that the Lord will send the students of His choice.

ALBANIA

Colin and Elida Stephen advise that Kreshniku, the young man mentioned in March ECHOES (Day 14), turned out to have advanced cancer and has now gone to be with the Lord. He left a very strong witness to his family, and a clear gospel message was given at the funeral. Kreshniku’s parents were previously opposed to his faith, but their attitude has now changed. Pray that they will think seriously about their spiritual need.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

Please continue to remember in prayer Noel and Liza McMeekin and the annual Postal Bible School prize givings. Pray that these meetings will be used by the Lord to reach many, as most of the folk attending have no other contact with the gospel. This week, prize givings will be held on 7th March Abbeyleix and Avoca, 8th Newcastle and Bray, and 9th Hollywood. Pray for safety as Noel and Liza travel many miles during these weeks.

ITALY

Paul and Nesta Volle (Montespeertoli) will be involved in tract distribution at the open-air markets in their area during March and April. Although there is little response to the offer of a free booklet or correspondence course, the Lord is able to use the written word for His purposes. In addition, they are looking forward to an agape meal being held on 11th March. Please pray that some contacts will attend and that they will experience something of God’s love for them.

SPAIN

Ken Barrett requests prayer for the public Bible reading on 10th March which is organised by several evangelical churches in Alcala. The reading will be more of a demonstration, as this annual event has been unfairly discriminated against by the city council, who have been trying to push it away from the city centre. It will be held in the main square  the first time since 2001. Pray for protection for the believers, and for fine weather.

LOCAL

Opening Conference on Saturday at 3:00 pm on John 17, followed after tea by Bible teaching from Dr Wille Naismith (Largs) and Mr Ian Robertson (Auchinleck) at 6:45 pm.

Dr Naismith (Largs) is responsible for the preaching of the Gospel on Sunday evening at 6:00. Please pray.
