PRAYER POINTS FOR WEEK 3rd July, 2006

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.

MALAWI (update)

Joseph Newell (aged 4) has been suffering from asthma and also a whole series of allergic reactions. He was very sick and needed injections to get him breathing again at one stage.

He is a lot better now and has seen a Christian immunologist in Blantyre who has been a great blessing. He has provided medication, advice, diagnosis and the possibility of an appointment at an allergy clinic when back in the UK on furlough (September-December 2006).  His parents—Jonathan & Ruth Newell—would value prayer that:

  • Joseph would not have another serious attack to the extent he stopped breathing.

  • They would get an appointment at an allergy clinic in the UK

  • They are able to see a Christian homeopath who could give help with Joseph’s allergies.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO

Retired missionaries Dr Peter and Ruth Coates ask us to pray for their former colleague Dr Kayombo. His mother is unwell with heart trouble, and he is also going through other difficulties. Please remember him and his family in your prayers. Prayer is also requested for the dry season conference to be held at Kasaji during the first week of July, and for the women’s conference in August.

INDIA

Ron and Lilo Penny say there has been a serious outbreak of ‘chikungunya’, a viral fever carried by mosquitoes, and over 100,000 people have been affected in their State alone, including two of the new girls at the Kollegal Girls’ Home. One of the girls is now improving after having had a high temperature for three weeks. Please pray that this will not spread to the other children in the Home.

Ian Elliot (update). The swelling in his leg has completely gone. He continues with antibiotics and returns to the doctor on 4th July for a further dressing. Please pray for complete healing.

FRANCE

Mike and Alison Packer give an update on Lara’s progress and the news is encouraging. Following a scan, although not reduced in size, the tumour has changed in appearance - a good sign, showing that it should respond to treatment. The chemotherapy continues from 3rd July. Up until now, Lara has coped well with the huge doses and her blood tests have proved to be excellent. Continue to pray that this good progress will be sustained.

Amanda Burger requests prayer for Charles, the l’Eau Vive Director, who is having surgery on 10th July. Charles is leading the first family camp on 19th July, so please pray for a successful and speedy recovery.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

Noel and Liza McMeekin report that the Postal Bible School summer camp starts on 5th July. Two further weeks of Holiday Bible Club are planned for Courtown, Co. Wexford, later in July.

Michael and Shirley McKillen request prayer for their summer outreach programme. From 8th-15th July, they will be helping Derek and Heather Watson lead a team during the Northfield Bible Week. Please pray that contacts will be made and for lives to be touched by the gospel.

LOCAL

David Clark is responsible for the Gospel Service this coming Sunday following the Open Air Mtg.

OPEN AIR MEETING: SUGGESTIONS

  • At the moment there is a tendency to stand alongside the Preacher, creating an “us and them” impression with anyone who is listening.  Keith Bullock’s suggestion was that we should stand in front of the Preacher and randomly amongst any who listen. Its more friendly!

  • Approach those who seem interested only when they move off or when the speaker finishes.

  • If we are able to talk to anyone, we should ask  for their thoughts on what they have just heard. Be willing to listen  as well as talk!
