Prayer Requests for Week Commencing 02-07-2007

The following information comes mainly from the Echoes weekly prayer bulletin and further details can be found on their web site. Other prayer requests have come from direct communication with the missionary involved.  An index of previous weekly Missionary Prayer Requests is given at the foot of the page.

MALAWI

Ruth Newell requests prayer for a children’s mission being held 9th-14th July. She will have the help of a team of young people from South Africa. Please pray for safety of travel for the team, for people to become sincere Christians, and for effective follow-up after the mission team leaves.

REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA

It is Bible Week for African brethren, when Zulu men gather together for one week of intensive Bible study. Paul and Dorothy Grieve say that each year it is a time of rich fellowship, so please pray that it will again be a time of blessing, encouragement and challenge.

JAPAN

Ken and Christine Cowell give thanks that five believers were baptised last weekend. Also, next Sunday, a middle-aged man is to be baptised and prayer is requested that unbelievers will attend this meeting.

BOLIVIA

Kenny and Claudia Holt request prayer for a two-week outreach programme. The first week, from 2nd-6th July, is for children aged 8-11, and will take the form of a two-hour club each morning, with a mixture of Bible stories, quiz, memory verse and songs. The second week, from 9th-13th, will be similar but the teaching will be broken down into small group study, thereby helping to reinforce the themes being studied. Please pray for a good number to attend, and that God will prepare the hearts and minds of the children as they hear the gospel.

FRANCE

Mike and Alison Packer state that the infection that Denison had has now responded to treatment and his high fever and hallucinations have disappeared. Test results show that the tumour is not malignant. He is due for a review this week as an operation is still required. Please continue to pray for Denison.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

David and Kay Stevens request prayer for the GLO team in Limerick from 7th-14th July. 20 team members are expected, including Mark and Shirley Davies (ex-missionaries, now with GLO). Mark will take the morning devotions and also three of the church meetings. It is hoped that at least five local teenagers will join in too.

Andrew Burt is running the children’s Holiday Club. Please pray for blessing on all the events held.

Noel and Liza McMeekin were involved in a week’s Holiday Club in Newbliss, Co. Monaghan, last week. 58 children were present on the first evening, which was an encouraging start. Please pray that the Lord will speak into the hearts of these young people. In addition, a children’s summer camp runs for a week starting on 14th July in Avoca, Co. Wicklow. 100 children will be involved in various activities and Michael McKillen is the invited speaker. Please pray for help for him and for those responsible for all the practicalities of running the camp, for blessing on the teaching from the Word of God, and for safety of travel and in every way during the week. Prayer is requested, too, for Hazel McMeekin, who is in her last week of a six-week visit to Angola, where she has been helping Ruth Hadley with her work in schools.

Colin and Rosemary Sheldon are preparing for a children’s programme to be held on two caravan parks in Newcastle, Co. Down, from 7th-21st July. In previous years, children have attended who have no other contact with Christian teaching, so please pray that the gospel will have an effect on these young lives. A team of young people will be helping in the children’s work and in the main tent meetings. Pray for blessing on helpers and hearers alike.

LOCAL

Open Air Meeting outside Larkswood Road Community Centre. The weather has been so poor in recent weeks that so far none of the "Open Air Meetings" have taken place. Please pray this witness may be able to take place next  Sunday, 8th July at 5:30 pm.

Richard Malcolm of North Shields is planned to be with us for the gospel on Sunday next.
